I've had a couple of sets- the quality on these varies widely as number of different manufacturers build them. For that price I wouldn't count on getting more than a few years out them.

The switch is built in, is that lumpy bit on the back.

I've got some on mine. I'm sure they were the cheapest ones the PO could find. They ran really slow when it was cold until they warmed up. I took them apart, cleaned all the gears, then re-greased them with some fresh stuff. They work great now. Who knows how old they are. While they were apart, I cut the shafts down so the wiper arms didn't stick out so far. Much happier with them now.

I ordered that same one from CSE offroad last week ($35 each), should be here on Thursday. I'll let you know how they work by Saturday.

I bought these from walcks4wd.com about 4 months ago and I hate them. I think I paid $45 each for these. The wiper rod whatever you call it that sticks out the windshield that you attach the wiper arms to, comes far too long and needs cut to length in the inner rod and the outer threaded sheath thingy for the nut to screw onto. they are both hard to cut without affecting the motor and causing it to bind and not work properly. I tried multiple attempts cutting it shorter and shorter until I could get them to operate correctly. the things I tried to cut them shorter were fine tooth hacksaw, pipe cutter that you tighten a little rotate around the wiper rod and then screw tighter until cut through and never could get them to work just right. They are also only one speed, which is pretty slow. they also started rusting shortly after install.

One last thing I forgot to mention, if you have the safari type ventilating windshield like I do, the wiper arms are too long and cause the wiper blade to not keep full contact on the window unless you chop the wiper blade shorter or modify the arm or something similar...

I have factory bosch on my 67. they have stand offs or spacers that keep the shaft from not sticking out too far on the front of the windshield frame.

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Although different than the aftermarket you might be able to use the stand offs to avoid cutting the shaft. Nylon sleeves from Home Depot work well.

Cut the shafts down with a cutoff wheel in an angle grinder. Works perfectly. Tubing cutter won't work right on a threaded piece, hacksaw will leave too much bur on the edges.

For the price of the motors, you might be able to find a later model windshield (pre-76) with the bottom mounted wipers. If so, problem solved.

The '76-on windshield will work too, but it won't fit your top (if you have one).

Got mine almost completely installed today. They don't just fall into place. On my '67, I ended up cutting about 1 1/4" off the shaft. I spaced the motor back about a half inch. Used 4 flat washers on the shaft, and a 1/4 by 1 1/4" bolt on the side. Had to drill out the hole in the windshield frame for the little bolt. The other tough part was getting power up the the motors and making it look nice. Included with the kit is some wire, but it's lucky if it's 20 ga. I had some 18 gauge in stock, so that's what I used. Bent a piece of 3/16 brake line to the inside of the WS frame, used it for a conduit. Whatever you do, don't loose the nut on the shaft. It's oddball metric- 9mm x .75 thread. The arms also need "adjusted", they are a bit too long to go into the wiper, had to grind about 1/4" off the end to make them fit.
For the $35 a piece I paid for the motors, I really can't complain. I spent a full afternoon on the install so far, just have to run the power wire over to the RH motor (ran out of tubing).

When I installed my omix ada electric wipers on my 59 cj5 I replaced the small gauge wire they came with with 18 gauge wire and I fed the wires to the windshield through some new black vacuum hose and it looks really nice. at first glance it looks like its still vacuum, and the only wires you can see on the windshield are the last 1/2" next to each wiper motor since the wires have to exit the hose to connect to the wiper terminals. But soon I plan on having wiperman rebuild my original vacuum wipers once I find an original dual action glass bowl fuel pump to rebuild.
