ebay replacement fuel tanks

Has anyone here ever purchased a new fuel tank off ebay? if so what type , plastic? or metal.
how was the quality? I am thinking about getting a plastic tank but it has the fuel tap comming out of the top , would this be an issue?.

 

What brand is the tank? eBay is a selling medium not a manufacturer. Could be a hundred different manufactured tanks sold on eBay.

Your original under-seat tank fed fuel from the bottom and the fuel sender screwed into the top with 6 screws. The plastic tank you are describing probably has a lock ring type hold-down for the sender and you will have to make a pick-up tube assembly to mount your fuel line to the top. Been there twice. Also both plastic tanks had a bunch of fine plastic slivers inside so a good flush and cleaning is required. You will also meed to replace your filter a few times in quick succession for the very fine slivers that get by the flush.

I bought a new steel tank from one of the recommended vendors on this site (can't remember which one, I've bought so much stuff over the years from multiple vendors) and it is exactly like the original. They are very well made. I don't know anything about the plastic ones but I think steel is better.

 

No experience but, am considering a plastic tank for the truck. Walt, how about sticking a vacuum cleaner hose in there to suck out the plastic slivers?

the tank I am looking at is an mts brand and it has the 6bolt/screw sending unit , which is the one I need . suposedly the pickup is allready in ther tank they said i would have to run an external filter ( which is a no brainer anyway.

 

If he has more than one fuel tank he is selling can you share the link? I am on the market for a under the driver seat replacement tank and sending unit. My preference would be steel over plastic, but I would consider checking out the plastic ones.

 

Iirc the MTS tanks do have the feed out the top even for the F-Head version. I've got one in the garage rafters. Could look tomorrow for you.

Sure, it would work some, but some slivers are attached at one end and the future fuel sloshing will dislodge the slivers.

Well I got the MTS plastic tank , it was clean as a whistle inside and it is possible to setup a return line if ever the need be.
seems like a good heavy duty tank .
