Tailgate finished (except for the footman loops.) The paint on it still needs a little more buffing but I'm having to do it all by hand so it is taking while. It's presentable now but you can still see wet sanding scratches in it.

I'm going to take her on the maiden voyage this weekend, weather permitting. I want to run it out and really test everything and get some good pictures while I'm out. I made an appointment next week with a local garage that specializes in antique cars to have it checked out, sort of a quality control measure. Then I'll get it aligned properly and state inspection.

Wish me luck on the maiden voyage, I hope I'm not embarrassed.

Sitting on the shoulder of the road with 37 pieces of transmission parts strewn across the lane and a shiny blue streak of gear oil tracing a sad path to the Jeep's undercarriage. Cars will pass by swerving to avoid the Jeep innards, tires screeching and horns blowing as I watch with a stupid, sappy look on my face. That's how. But I always assume worst-case scenario, it could go better. :)

Yes, definitely make sure to stop by this fall.

Thanks. I used reproduction stock springs that I bought from either Walcks or Kaiser Willys (can't remember.) I wanted to keep my originals but the rear ones were broken. I like the half top on yours, I'm considering getting one like that.

ok i have read the whole thread and your jeep looks sweet but i got a couple of questions

first if you was to do this all over again starting over would you use a repop tub?

and i forgot the second and third questions i had thought of before i went to work i will ask when i remember

Probably. My original tub wasn't bad, in fact it was much better than most I've seen and it was certainly repairable by someone who knows his way around a welder. The front floor pans were shot but the rear pan was actually solid but beaten up a little (wavy) and would have been acceptable as a driver or trail rig but I was going for perfect. By the time I purchased complete front and rear floor pans and paid somebody to weld them in properly, I would have had about the same money in it as the new tub.

However, I've had to do some welding on the repop tub that I wasn't expecting. So I have improved my welding abilities somewhat but I still don't think I am at the level for doing complete floor pans.

So, yes, if I had it to do over again, I would still do the new tub but I would know what to expect and would have done many things differently with it. For example, I could have improved the edge on the cowl where it lines up with the hood. If I had properly test fit everything before I painted the tub, I could have done some refab work there and saved myself a lot of grief down the road. As it is now, the hood doesn't sit straight because the cowl is not straight. I don't think it is noticeable to the naked eye but I had to drill out the holes for the hood hinges so I could adjust them beyond their intended limits. Same thing with the hood latch on the windshield, I had to move it off center in order to catch the hood. Again, none of this is noticeable but it bothers me.

In all, the repop tubs aren't bad. They are made of thick metal and generally well built by original standards. But they are far from perfect and definitely not the "plug and play" operation they are advertised to be.

Sort of a long-winded answer but I hope that helps.

    not long winded at all

and it helps quite a bit i guess i will spring for a new tub for my cj6 cause it needs new floors, sides. and corners but i can reuse the dash and the cowl

i just hope my 6 turns out as good as your 5 and i have figured out it is easyier to build a wheeler and a driver than restore one to stock

OK, took it down the road for the first time putting about 8 miles on the odo. I have lots of questions that I will post in the tech section but in the meantime, here are some photos I took.
