As most of the regulars on this site know..I have been fighting a hesitation under acceleration with my 71 Odd fire with a Roch. 2G the last month. After trying every idea everyone posted, a few others, taking the Carb apart 9 times, 2 complete rebuild kits installed, replacing the Dist. cap, rotor, coil and plugs twice (in case I just kept getting defective ones) and taking the front of the motor apart (after just rebuilding it) to make sure the timing chain was on correctly....I found out that the "new" ethanol enhanced gas (atleast here in N.C.) has been distorting the rubber on the accelerator pump and allowing it not to seal in the pump well and therefore letting gas pass by under pressure (under acceleration) I found an accelerator pump on Quadrajet parts.com that had the new style rubber to prevent this and it also had a garter spring inside it to make sure it formed a good seal against the pump well. I have put 200 miles on it this week and it runs like a CHAMP. This is my first Jeep and I was minutes from sticking a for sale sign on it until I found this..it is now fun to drive!!!

I am in California and had the rubber on 3 of those accelerator pumps disintegrate in a year and a half from carb kits from my regular FLAPS and Napa. The last one I used was from e-bay, Original old stock, thought I would give it a try, was expensive but has been in for a year and still working. Next time I'll try the Quadrajet parts. Thank You for the the update and report

Thanks for the info, I'll look into the quadrajet part. I have been going to service station here locally that stills sells pure gasoline, but I am not counting on them doing that much longer.

You can go to http://www.pure-gas.org to find sites that still have ethanol-free gas. They even have a cool little iPhone app that uses your GPS location to find stations near you that sell ethanol-free fuel. HINT: Many marinas sell ethanol-free fuel, but usually at a dollar or more per gallon higher than "regular" pump gas.

I'm gonna try one also. Been dealing with the same hesitation here lately. Atleast we are paying a little less now for this flammable water!

One thing you will find is if they are still using the ethanol mix after Tax Day, is the ambient temperature is too high and the alcohol in it is causing vapor locks. Which results in no start situations. And maybe these hesitations, also.

Almost all gasoline sold in the US today is the E-10 mix, regardless of octane. The exception is of course the E-85 that is slowly gaining market share.

Another reason that E-10 gets a bad rap is that the ethanol attracts water, which along with the mild corrosive properties of ethanol makes for more rust & crud in your fuel system.

The summer formula is different from the winter formula. At least it is here in Phoenix. They tried to run that stuff all year round here and found that they couldn't. You would pull in to a gas station, fill up and not be able to leave because your vehicle vapor-locked. The oil companies ended up going back to the two different formulas, because they were in danger of being sued out of their respective shorts if they didn't.
