Last Saturday I needed to hitch up the big trailer to the Ramcharger to run some errands. Don't drive it often, so I disconnect the battery between times. While hooking up the battery and giving the engine compartment a once over, notice a small puddle of oil, nope looks like brake fluid. Check the lines and hoses, dry. Check the master cylinder, not that low. Start the truck a little leery, push on the brake pedal, doesn't feel bad. Pump it and push it down hard, busch! To the floor, right front steel line rusted thru and gone a gusher. Funny thing, not where I saw the puddle.
Thank the good Lord above it happened in the peace, and static tranquility of my driveway, not pulling the loaded trailer in traffic thru a crosswalk. Only a minor glitch at this point.

Have gotten out of the habit of really pushing on the brake pedal before starting.
Need to restore that as a regular part of the start up systems check, particularly on my older vehicles.
Brakes are a luxury, certainly handy to be forewarned that the vehicle is not so equipped.
