I'm hoping that someone can tell me if I got this right or not...

    Its a 1966 cj5 with a t86 behind a dauntless v6.

    Here are the pictures.

This is where the crossmember bolts to the transmission, at the rear of the tranny.

and this second photo is towards the engine. The bottom is the crossmember, with a steel "U" shaped piece which has some rubber/squishy stuff inside and sticking out the top (for flex I'm assuming).

There are two bolts which hold the transmission to the block (U shaped squish filled thing) which sits on top of the crossmember. It looks like the transmission is "sitting on top" of those two bolts, sandwhiching them between the pieces of the bracket.

Any help would be appreciated, especially pictures of similar set ups.

    Thanks in advance!

That U shaped piece you speak of is the mount and if it's "squishy" it's probably pretty darn close to the point of being ready to separate , which is not a good thing. Other than that it looks good.

Do you have the spacers between the frame rails and the cross member? should be spaced down about 3/4"

yup looks right. on top of the rubber mount theres a thick piece of plate steel which has a bendy profile which bumps the tranny back a few inches. thats all correct. Also make sure the transfer case rubber puck is there and in good shape as that is almost always in worse condition than the tranny mount

    Spacers and rubber puck

Thanks for all your feedback guys!

The crossmember spacers are installed, and mine measured 1" thick.

I don't see any kind of rubber puck attached to the transfer case, and there wasn't anything there when I took it apart. Its a dana 18 if that makes any difference. Where should it be?

My transfer case never comes into contact with the crossmember, but it seems like it might be a good idea to support it instead of just having it hang off the transmission.

    Here are some more pics:

This shows the crossmember spacers and the transfercase

Thanks again for your help and any further advice/comments.

middle/top right of that first photo.....there's a oblong hole apx 3/4"-7/8" hole, rubber puck goes there between TC and crossmember to help with torsion twist.....IT NEEDS TO BE THERE!!!

You might think so but no, you don't need /want to do that.

Wait, spacers between the frame rails and the crossmember??? Is this on the V6 models only? My Fhead CJ5 didn't come like that, at least there weren't any that I took off. I've got the crossmember bolted right to the frame, is that incorrect? 1956 CJ5 /Fhead & T90/D18, standard setup.

Here is mine. I'm not sure if that was the intended way the mount setup was supposed to be, but then again, thats the only way I could put it together. It seems like they threw that stuff together in the design phase with whatever that already had.

There IS a support from the Transfer case to the frame on the passenger side. There is an arm on the far right of the t/c that bolts to a 4 cylinder engine mount that then bolts inside the frame rail.

Nevermind that emergency brake cable, it's in the wrong place

You can kind of see the right side mount in this pic. Look to the left of the brown seat peeking in the right of the pic. You can see a big silver nut and washer in the frame rail; that's it

    Rondog,

My '56 was just like yours - no spacer. Of course, when I bought it, it didn't have any spacers or pads between the body and the frame. Let me know if you find out it's supposed to be there. Gotta love those P.O.'s. LOL.

Hey Tom! How ya been? Haven't seen your name around here lately, but I might have missed it. I see your last post was from 2008. FYI - I have one of your rotissieries now, bought it from Posimoto but he built it off your design/plans.

    Re: Spacers and rubber puck

Sorry to bring this back up, but why wouldn't I want to have the rubber puck there to support the transfer case? Seems like if it came that why there is probably a reason, they didn't put a lot of unnecessary things on these old rigs.
