Ok so Ive got a bad cover and started looking around I checked TA Performance and yea they have em. I noticed that those covers go through alot of different engine sizes including the 231. Well I also went to napa and they have a cover for a 76 Skylark part# COP6018091 with the 231 as well as for the 350 sounds like it should work but I'm not sure and now I'm more than a little hesitant about just goin out and ordering this. What do u guys think

Yeah, EF 231 and 350 covers will work. But the timing marks are off if it's a 225. There's discussion here in the past that you can find with a search...

You said it was for a 231 and 350 didn't you? That would indicated to me that it was for an even fire 231.

    '76 was odd-fire though, yes.

It has bolt on Timing marks like all covers that are being sold. TA Performance shows that there cover fit 215 225 231 252 300 340 350, Now timing marks are also sold and I was wondering if the bolt on timing marks for 75-77 oddfire motor AutoZone P/N 500231-TM would be the same as 69 225 motor?

Well went to local autozone and ordered new cover 159.99 plus tax itll be in on the 22nd. Checked with Napa 1st they quoted 182.99 plus tax and shipping of 10 to 20 bucks. I let the guy know online it was 169.99 and all of sudden he could do that price but with shipping it was still more. AutoZone also had the timing cover Timing marks for the oddfire motor which I hope lines up.

You bought the timing cover from Autozone and it has Odd-fire timing marks?

BTW, I have good luck with Autozone timing cover gasket kits. They usually have one in stock.

Jim do yourself a favor. Find TDC with a probe or while you have the cover off and check the marks to the balancer before you put it all together and think it's right on.

I agree with Warloch. All the 231, 252, and 350 Buick timing covers I've seen had a plastic bolt on timing indicator and are in a different location than the 225. The cover will work fine but timing marks are off on all the ones I've seen as compared to a 225. Nickmil

That's what I was thinking but who am I to argue if it's for a '75 that's an OF engine. :?

I hear ya. IIRC the '75-'77 OF 231 had a different harmonic balancer with the timing mark in a different location. I'd have to investigate more though as my memory isn't what it used to be.... Nickmil

If it helps at all, I have a '75 231 odd-fire block with a 225 harmonic balancer and a 225 timing cover (cast marks) and it works fine. Nick sold me the timing cover too. :D

Im definitly going to do this but since murphys law has been in full effect throughout this process how can I go about fixin this little problem if its off by x amount of degrees. Cut a new mark in pulley to indicate TDC and start with this maybe. Im just guessin at this point and any an all ideas will appreciated. Wife is really startin to doubt my abilities and tell ya the truth so am I anymore
