OMG Thank you so much NorCal - that's pretty much what I was looking for:D While searching for what is on it now never found this color. Scroll to the top to see what it had before sandblasting - THAT'S IT! :goodidea:

Cool write up. Both those greens are cool.
Got a 64 also. Getting ready to do the 11" brakes, and get the body back ready to go on the painted chassis. Retire in two weeks Maybe I can get some time in on this Jeep.
Looks like you're making great progress. Inspires me to get back on mine. Originally mine was Presidents Red, but those green colors make me look hard at them.
Thanks for posting your progress. Nice job.

Pretty happy with how it's coming out. The fenders, tailgate ans dashboard are out for paint, (Tub, hood, and grill are next). I decided to go with an 1970 Avocado Mist.
Also new is leaf springs, shocks shackles etc.
Doing this rebuild is kind of like reading good book - ...on the one hand you don't want to see it end. On the other hand all good things come to an end. It's kind of fun doing this stuff.

Progress is slower then I'd hoped. Playing "Wack-a-mole" with leaks. First the rear brake lines, then the transfer case behind the front drive yoke. Flares on the the old brake lines just weren't cutting it anymore. replacing them solved the problem. Found the yoke nut a bit loose causing the T-case leak.

How does the water pump develop a leak while the Jeep is undergoing this work, just sitting in the shop? I haven't touched it and all of a sudden I see antifreeze on the floor.
    Traced the antifreeze to this
    [IMG]
Clearly the seal failed, but why now? I guess better here & now rather than out in the woods. So off goes the pump, replacement on order.
Next is to lay out the wiring to see what needs to be done there. During tear down I noticed some wires weren't connected to anything, so I marked them such. I was able to verify these wires were homeless so I took them out of the harness. Some of the barrel connectors need to be replaced, other connector have bad crimps. I'll go through them all one by one.

Unfortunately, my wife needs/wants help getting the tomato plants from the greenhouse planters to the ground, so minimal Jeep work today :booo:

Been a while... competing projects, and my painter is taking forever to finish up.
Update: got the wiring all sorted out, connections clean. New water pump installed. Started work on the windshield, new glass and paint.
Seats: I've been reading threads here on ECJ5. Some good some bad on the Smitty Built replacements. I struggled with the decision given the condition of my drivers seat. The PO was a very large guy, which prompted a modification to the seat frame. Someone should invent an "invincible duct tape."

Below is the repair attempt on the seat frame. Structurally it was good, but not much aesthetic concern.

To make a more informed seat decision I wanted to see the frame without all the ugly "stuff."
So not bad huh? Had to fix 2 broken springs on the driver's by cutting the head of a nail off, bending it, then securing the nail to both broken ends - worked good. Several other repairs too, clamps, broken welds. Next I removed dirt and rust. They cleaned up pretty good. I think I'll go for it. I'll order some material and put these back together. BTW the mouse nest on the passenger side is was kind of gross. Had to wear a respirator while taking it apart.

I did get some of my painted parts back from the painter - he is slow, but quality is good.
I decided to go with Avocado Mist. It's not a 1964 color, (I think it came later, like 1969, or 1970)
Here's how the grill came out

Been a while since I had any meaningful updates to my rebuild, been painting my house. Earlier I reworked my seats. Thought about going the Smittybuilt way, but comes with challenges and after reading reviews in here I decided to work with what I have. So basically I stripped the seat down to just the frame, cleaned and painted. I watched a few videos on upholstery, and ordered up the materials. Here are the frames stripped and painted. I installed new batting and used new Best top covers. I'll have to take some pix of the finished product. For now here's the cleaned up frames

Today my painter finished up the rust repairs on the tub, primed it, and added some color. My part is to apply seam sealer and paint the underside, which I did today. I used Chassis Saver.

For the top side of the tub I'm thinking about a 2 tone paint, the green and use black in the foot areas, more on that later.
Glad to be working on the Jeep again. Between painting the house and Jeep, if I don't see a paint brush again for 10 years I'll be happy.

Once the seam sealer hardens up, I'll get paint on that and add a second coat to all of it

Great job on the seat frames. My original seats were gone from the jeep when i got it. No luck finding any used frames yet. I cant wait to see yours when done. Great paint color choice too BTW.

Oh, if you dont mind, could you give me the overall dimentions of the seat frames, not including the springs, like the width and height of the seat backs and is the seat bottom the same width as the top, it looks like it is in your photos. Anything would help me out. Thanks in advance.

I finished up the seats, Pretty happy with it. Reused the batting on the seat backs, but new for the bottom sides.

Here's the finished product. Wonder if it'll last 58 year like the original? The Best Top covers are a bit loose fitting, but I think they're built to last.

Big day today, planning to put the tub back on the frame. The plan is to place the body parts on the frame for a final squirt of paint all in one shot. I'll have pictures later.

With record high temperatures and humidity I installed the tub back onto the frame. The body shop did a nice job on the rust repairs. Final paint coming soon. A little ingenuity to lift and place it. I strapped a come-a-long to the building joist, let it sit for a while to make sure it would hold - it did.
Then I rolled the frame under the dangling tub, and lowered it down onto the frame.
It now sits about an inch higher. I think I like it!
It's bolted onto the frame with hockey pucks sandwiched in between.
Seam sealer on the top with a 2 tone paint scheme. Still need to coat the seam sealer and add a second coat. The whole thing is gonna be Avocado green with all black trim, black in the cargo area, (planning to put down a black mat anyway), and black where my big feet operate the foot controls. Hope it's not too much black, (the dashboard is green).

Next is to place the fenders, and hood for final paint, then onto wiring.
    Heck - this is fun!

Seat backs measure, (approximately) 20" wide and 22" from the bottom of the frame, (lowest horizontal) Bottom of the seat is 17" from back to leading edge,
where your legs hang over) and 21" wide. I say approximate because the seats have been reassembled and the new batting hampers and accurate measurement.
If you have a current set of frame in reasonable shape, you can rebuild them fairly easily.

Installed the fenders and grill today. Seems like everything is lining up correctly, will see when the hood goes on!

Body parts all placed back onto the frame. Off to the paint shop for the final squirt of paint.
Sits about 1.5 inches higher with the new leaf springs - like it!
