The rear sping hanger are on and burned in . I boxed the frome at the rear hangers with a small piece and extended the factory boxing at the front hangers to give a little more support. The front bumper got shortened and tapered not perfect by any means but lots better than the brick **** house proof thing it started as.

When you get to the point of assembling the 283, you may want to weld a skid plate on your oil pan. This one served me well for almost 4 decades. 3/16's.

I hope your rear axle shaft grinding works out ok. Most, if not all, factory axle shafts are induction hardened and the depth of that hardening can be rather shallow-say 0.050 to 0.060". It doesn't take much reduction in the diameter to remove that or severely compromise it. I think one is better off enlarging the spindle bore-to a point anyway. The caveat being if those shafts are chrome molly which is typically through hardened.

Good idea on the pan. The shafts I only ground about 0.20 off of right at the end of the splines on the hub side there was a raised area around a half inch long that was to large to slip the spindle over I won't be able to remove the axle unless the spindle is removed first I put this together on the cheap side with parts I had on hand got the shafts for cheap if I ever have problems I'll replace the spindles with the ones Brennan makes or use Dane 44 ones.

More things got done today. The Saginaw steering box got mounted. I really agonized over this at first I over engineered it. then had to stop and make it strong but simple. Postal frames are boxed and have inserts in the holes so I just reused them holes to bolt my 1/2" plate to the frame with 4 bolts and 2 bolts through the plate to the gear 2 directly to the plate and 2 bolts through the plate to the gearbox I'll also weld the plate to the frame in a couple places. 20220306_100449_compress65.jpg 20220306_100449_compress65.jpg 20220306_174015_compress6.jpg 20220306_100449_compress65.jpg 20220306_174004_compress16.jpg 20220306_173905_compress48.jpg

Got the front cross member built and installed. Notched for the steering shaft and crank pulley. Just for Howard a pic of my small but clean work bench.

Yep it's a Jeep just like a dog marking it's turf. Rear out put on transfer case is leaking past the seal already and it's not even close to running
I'll have to address this double up the seal or something. 20220406_152804_compress23.jpg

It might be the speedometer gear. Mine was leaking there after filling until I attached the cable. At first I thought it was the rear seal.

It could be I welded the hole shut on the in side because I'm not going to use a cable. No gears left in it I'll look in to it

20220612_144631_compress54.jpg Got the Brennan Mecalf wheel spacers for the front axle so the wheels will clear the rotors quality workmanship on these well worth the money it took a little trial and error on the studs but finally found the correct length I attached a photo of the part #so others doing this can get the correct ones a little bit easier than me 20220612_143853_compress8.jpg 20220612_143912_compress88.jpg

Like Jzeber said, RTV on the splines of your rear output shaft will likely fix the leak. BTDT.

The weather is cooling off again so I blew the cobweb’s and dust off of this pile and started working on it again . My plans have changed a bit after finding out the block on my engine is junk I’m now searching for a 4.3 liter v6 should be easy enough .Lol. I also ditched the manual steering box and replaced it with a power one. Was working on a skid plate and cut my hand so work stopped for a bit. I have been stock piling some parts so things should start progressing along.

Took a break from this thing for a bit injuries to my hand then a concussion from a kick to the head by a bull then my dad passing away. November and December weren’t good months. I got back out in the shop and moved the tub inside and have started to do the body work on it. Placed an order with classic enterprises for ner hat channels both rear corners and the right front floor pan . The left floor pan I will cut out the two bad spot and weld in patches. Body work is very tedious and detail oriented work that I hate but I’m trying to take my time and do it correctly that’s all for now .
