Back to another $ 22 reason , from one of my Mentor's :

" I wouldn't voluntarily use one on any car built since the early 2000s. The oil can contaminate the MAF. It doesn't affect our stuff much because our MAF measurements are in 1 gram increments from 0-255. 8 bit PCM. If some oil on the MAF causes the reading to be off by 1g, that's not going to show up in our computer. The tune is too coarse, it won't cause a problem.

A new car uses a 32 bit floating point number for the MAF measurement, and can measure MAF down to the hundredth of a gram and the tunes can react to differences that small. Any little bit of vegetable oil on that wire can pollute the reading and cause some goofy stuff."

Mines a '84 engine. The Test guy was referring to very modern cars. I am gonna switch to an AFE off road Proguard 7 , for about $ 85 now that I know that it works.
    Thanks , Good Night .....& Let's Go Rangers !

I guess your referring to K&N washable filter.
I'll stick to paper, even with a carburetor. The issue is that they don't filter out the fine debris as well as a good paper filter.
Sort of like the fiberglass "filter" for a furnace. It's there but really doesn’t do anything for the long term.

I wasn't "piling on". I was sharing with you factual real world data on why K&N is a pretty awful filter choice. It's nothing against you. Plenty of people get sucked in by K&N's marketing thinking they are getting some kind of better performing filter and they simply don't know any better.

My son's Willys had a big chunk that got broken out of the firewall somehow, and had been crudely patched by the PO. We cut it out and made a better patch and my son welded it in today.

I recently bought a glove box from a member here(thanks again @Oldpappy ) to replace the one in the wife's 62. It is much smaller than the one that was in there, so I decided to fix up the one that I took out.
the old one, the bottom is brittle and broken and cracked. 15 layers of duct tape, its held up good for 4 years.
plus the new one is too shallow, so I'd have to cut a slot in it, or remove the catch hook.
so, I took it to work, put some fiberglass on it, and then shot it with some of the wife's paint.

hope it lasts another 30 years

I have one like that in mine, it's great! Goes all the way back to the firewall.

Ran into a couple new snags with the 231 break-in so I’m going to ignore it for a couple more days.

Better that I get all the body work done before it’s running anyway. So I painted the tube fenders, the whole rear 1/3 with the replacement corners and the rear armor.

Color looks to be a good match. I did 4 light coats and didn’t get any runs as far as I know.

    Taped and ready

Got the CJ2's rear axle put back together. Will put it under the frame tomorrow morning and I'll have a rolling chassis again [IMG] Feel like I'm getting back in the groove on that. I hit a similar wall with the CJ5 where I didn't work on it for like a month or made very little progress.

When I built my 56 CJ5, it came with a Ford Rug Top loader 4 speed matted to a Dana 18 T/C I installed a Carbureted 5.0L Ford roller motor. The tranny has a very high low gear so I have been looking for an NP435. It's $585.00 for the adapter kit to hang the D18 on the NP435 and I would still have a weak/noisy D18. I have a Land Rover LT230 T/C in my 63 Willys Wagon divorced behind a 302 Ford and 5 speed.
I also have another LT230 T/C with a 3.321-1 low range. They are an all gear drive case and beefy strong..Here is a comparison picture of the D18 bull gear and the Rover input shaft/gear
I took the NP435 Yoke and cut the ears off of it. Then removed the tail shaft housing.
Then turned it in the lathe to make a sleeve with the Ford 28 splines.
I removed the input gear from the T/C case and after heating and annealing the internal splines, I was able to turn it on the lathe and bore the spline out and press the Ford splined sleeves into it.
, After Rosette welding then welding each end. I quenched it in oil to re harden it. Now the Ford trans plugs right into the Rover gear.
Once the T/C case was back together, the Ford out put shaft slides right into the Rover input shaft.
with everything slid together, I will now need to make a 1 3/4" adapter plate to bolt the two units together.
The over all length is 24 1/2" from bell housing mounting face to rear T/C drive flange. Which by the way are the same 4 bolt pattern and counter bores as the CJ5

I sure hope so. With the 354-1 axle gears, it need the 6.69-1 granny in the NP435! Plus the 3.321-1 low range will help.

That puts you at a 78:1 crawl ratio. Very respectable.

The Top Loader works well. It might be ok in sand drags, with it's 2.3-1 low gear

A couple issues with the paint on the fenders.
Left the fenders in the driveway for a couple hours after sunset and I guess the humidity/Dewpoint got to them because The horizontal flat surface became very dull.

and of course a bug got stuck on the fender. Driver side where it is most noticeable.

They always find a way to the new paint!

Seems I'm always fixing bugs in the paint if I paint outside.
