I will be replacing the rear seal(s) on my D-18, I will be using two seals like I read about on this forum.
What can I use to install the seals. I read through the improvised tools thread and didn't see a seal driver that I thought would work. Did I miss it?
    Thanks
    Nick

I thought it took a socket but it's been a few years since I did mine.

There is a rebuild guide around but it's host site might have died.

So I find a socket large enough to mate to the metal portion of the seal with a small enough OD to fit in the 'collar' behind the companion flange?

Yes. Unless you have a seal driver set. But the right size socket works just as well.

I have used PVC pipe couplings as seal drivers, as well as black iron pipe. Take the seal to the hardware store and see what matches the diameter. Not rocket science. :)

Got a circular piece of 1/2” aluminum from McMaster……
Nice straight edge to set the seal. Removed a tiny bit on the circumference from an available size to make it easy in and out

I use an old Dana 18 front clutch. It fits perfect on the output shaft splines so keeps the seal square and is the perfect diameter to not distort the seal shell.
