I think that is an adjustable proportioning valve I see in an earlier photo. My understanding is you adjust so the rears lock up only slightly before the fronts.

Rears should lock up slightly after the front.

A locked up tire doesn't have and side stability. If the fronts lock up first it plows straight ahead. If the rears lockup first it tries to swap ends. Plowing straight ahead generally safer than spinning.

Yes that is a proportioning valve. With that my understanding is that i need to drive it first and adjust it in order to achieve equilibrium stopping power between front/back when the pedal is pressed.

Sorry I wasn’t clear what I actually meant is after just throwing the brakes on the rear axle - which I did two years ago and have not touched since - is there any sort of an adjustment that needs to be done with the star wheels at each wheel cylinder in the back?

Jack up the wheels and adjust them so there is slight drag when turning the wheel, but very slight.

Just getting caught up. I have been in brake bleed hell this week as well. I'm glad you now have some pedal, and without dragging the wife out to the garage like I did. (She was actually a good sport). When it's new, you will mess with it for a while. And I did a prop. valve on my 3B years ago when it was disc/drum and in the end the valve was wide open, so I did away with it. For the rears, as was said, start with a slight drag, then make sure to hit the brakes when you back up, and they will self-adjust over time.

I know you have it done now, but I was just this afternoon having this discussion with Sam, because of the sprinkler system I have going. He said tighten snug, note position of wrench, loosen a few turns, retighten, repeat 3 times, and the wrench will go further each time and seat the flare. I did it on mine and it solved it.

Question for you guys – since I don’t have storage space I have to try to put all the chrome parts, fenders, etc. on the jeep today.

Am I correct in that nothing goes between the chrome parts and the body, or do I need to put some type of sealant in there?

Nothing there from the factory. You could smear a thin layer of silcon in there to protect the paint but you want make sure you don't create a moisture trap. Maybe an upside down U shape around the outer edges open on the bottom for drainage and ventilation.

I got one fender lightly bolted on.Didn’t account for needing to tap all the painted threads! I have to decide what to put between the fender and the tub, and between the fender and the grill. I have on hand:

    • 1/16” neoprene rubber,
    • black butyl strips, and
    • Grey foam weather stripping.

    Which should I do?

Well stock there was nothing. I do like on the flattys the canvas welt (assuming it stays halfway dry most of the time). I'd let the fenders dry as long as you can by the wood stove, then bolt them up.

Mortite putty would probably work well between the fenders and the body.

The ones on my 69 look like they have never been off and the pins on the hood point toward the center. Opposite of your picture above.
