Im sure you're right. I've pulled the jeep north of 80 on the freeway and driven it for hours at 70 with the seal like this. I replaced it after the windshield flew up while towing it at around 80 last summer. The frame hammered the front hoop of the roll cage destroying the glass, but it stayed in place.

Again your probably right. Mostly I'm trying to rationalize not pulling the glass and turning the seal right. That was one of my least favorite jobs in awhile.

I finally got my windshield glass in my aftermarket frame. My original frame had long rusted out by the time I got the Jeep. It was probably the most difficult and frustrating thing I’ve had to do so far on the project but she’s in. In case anyone is planning to use it, I purchased the DL01105 kit after watching some You Tube videos on the rope and glass cleaner method. Seemed doable. The seal that came with the kit however was not a custom continuous circle but a long strip where you cut excess to fit. It had absolutely no grab of the windshield (or frame to speak of) so several attempts with putting it on the glass first and then using the rope method were unsuccessful. I finally ended up putting the seal on the frame first, laying the glass on top, working in the ends, starting the locking strip on both ends to help hold it, and then slowly working around with a plastic spreader getting the glass to set down in the seal. Of course it moved all around but after several hours, lots of windex for lubrication, and an extra set of hands periodically it got done.

    Impressive!

I thought about doing it myself but the installation was only $100 from a local installer. After watching him do the installation it was $100 well spent!

    One thing to consider.
If you buy the glass from one source and have it installed by someone else and they break it you
are out the cost of the glass.
However if you have your local glass shop cut and install and they break it, they would cover it.
Also try to get lami with .030 interlayer rather than .015

Thats funny Mike I had the same shop cut the new glass for CHUG (3a windshield) took a couple days longer then they thought due to the one guy that does custom cuts being sick., But $91.00 for the glass and it fit perfect. I bought one of the bead installer tools off Amazon for like $14.00 and after figuring out how to use it it only took about 20 min to assemble the thing.

they have changed owners since I had that glass installed. All bets are off on recomendations The glass was ordered from a outside supplier pre-cut ready to install..John White always did great work, but retired and sold the business.that was 11 years ago.

Actually my local glass shop quoted two prices for my YJ - one to fit the glass, and a second higher price "if it breaks."

Did it myself, but it was not something I'd do again.

I just had a local glass place get the glass and do the replacement. 150 dollars all said and done. Well worth it and the guy came to my work and did it in the parking lot while I was on a call.

I think I glued my seal to the frame with windshield sealer. I recall wrapping tape around frame and seal to hold it while it set up. Then installed the glass. Lock strip outside. Hated it. Before gluing it in the seal wouldnt stay put while I worked. Definitely pay the man. He needs to eat, too.
