I purchased a new Luk clutch Kit and of course the supplied TO Bearing is way to short. After reading numerous threads on this issue, have a couple questions I’m hoping you guys can help me with.

In one post, members have used clutch kits not specifically for Jeep’s, but with higher spring distances (need less travel for TO Bearing). Am I better off ordering a different clutch kit or just going with a longer bearing? I will need to go with a bearing close to two inches.

second question is, can anyone confirm the length of the bearing release arm? My pedal has always been difficult to push in. I’m wondering if I’ve got the wrong arm that is short and maybe requiring more effort to move the TO Bearing?

as always thanks for all your help.

OAL of the standard release arm is 8-1/2”.
It will be far cheaper to buy a new release bearing than a new cover plate assembly.

Thanks! I’m picking up a longer TO Bearing in the morning. Sounds like I have the correct arm. I went with the premium cable from in line tube, works a bit smoother, but still requires plenty of effort to push in the clutch

just asking . cause the whole time I ran the T14 with a deep bell
the only one that would release was the 3 finger 9 spring
pedal pressure is some-what hard but bearable
taller throw out bearing might do the trick

Well, the throw out bearing is about the same size as what I had, so not much difference.
Do you recall the part number of the three finger you used? Think I’ll go this route.

    You have a T14 or T 15?

Here is what I used with the 225 V6 and T14 combination.

The bearing supplied with the kit.

I used a longer pivot stud which creates a different fork angle for better leverage.

Here is the difference in the fork angle.

This combination has worked very well together. Mine is installed on a 70 Jeepster/Commando, but the 225 / T14 engine/ bell housing/transmission is exactly the same as the CJ5 with the same, T15 may differ.
You could also go with a hydraulic master / slave setup for easier clutch action too.

My transmission is the T-14, 1971.

Thank you so much for checking into this. This is the same Luk kit I’m trying. I think the main issue is that the bell housing used in 1971 is longer which causes the throw out bearing length to be increased. I currently have the largest bearing and ball stud I can find and just come up a bit short on the throw. I’m wondering if the clutch pressure plates with three fingers are deeper, which would bring every thing closer together.

    What year is your Jeep?

All original Dauntless clutches were Borg Beck.
The # 948692 diaphragm type Borg Beck was used prior to 1970. Then they went to the slightly heavier pressure three finger type Borg Beck #994843.
These two different types of pressure plate assemblies used different types of release bearings too.
The 10.5” Borg Beck driven disk did not change.
Aftermarket three finger clutches ( mistakenly called Borg Becks) are frequently built with too many springs for typical Jeep applications….

I sold my oem 3 finger type clutch to a member here but I do still have an original Borg Neck diaphragm type available.
I probably have some oem nos driven disks too …

The original diaphragm fingers are 2-5/16” high.
