Back to work on the pedals. The CJ7 pedals require a lot of modification to fit the way I want them to, so a cut here, a trim there, and a flip for one pad to the other side.
Got them dummied up on the welding table, mounted the cylinders, and made a second stand off for the brake side.
Now playing with pedal travel, and how long the push rods need to be.
Happy with the fit after about ten more times in and out of the jeep, I broke it down, welded her up, and a quick shot of paint. Also tried on the pads.

I see you are trying to put the brake pedal on the right side of the steering column. Are you going to have enough room for the gas pedal?

    Here's my placement.

Yeah, it's the same placement as a stock V6 jeep. I have this setup in my 3B and it's a little close, but has never been a problem. Nice A1 from what I can see.

It took a little brain work to get the right pedal placement, pedal ratio, stroke, and functionality, and I laugh now, with beer in hand on New Years Eve looking at my plans, complete with weld burns and scribbles all over.
The last time before paint, I hung them and sat in there, this will be fine. The cable gas pedal is going away in favor of a stock V6 gas pedal I got from a member here. And as pointed out, it's a little close, but has not been a problem in my other jeeps.
These are the cylinders. The brake is a disc/drum MC for a late 70's CJ5/7 I got from my brother (Partsdude4x4.net). The clutch is a Speedway 3/4" universal unit I have used before.
There is a lot going on here, most I will explain later, but it shows my curly hard lines I made with a coil of 3/16" line I got from Summit, along with stone guard wire covering.

I want to get the body off while I have Nick home from Chico State for the holiday. But, since some college age people don't get up very early while on break, I had some time to look into a nagging issue: lack of oil pressure. So I pulled the accessories and the front cover.
I don't know if you can see it here, but the oil pump is trashed.
Since it is so easy at this point to pull the motor, I will get it on a stand soon, and investigate further. But first... body off time. Rolled it outside, broke it loose with the hoist, then the cavalry finally showed up and we lifted it onto a jeep trailer.

That's fairly pitted and scored up. New cover for sure, good call.

Rolled the chassis back inside, and looked things over. Pay no attention to the mismatched tires, the renegade wheels are destined for another jeep, so for now these are just rollers I have lying around.
First move was to remove the front axle, no point in tripping over it for the next month. I am not using the Dana 27, and my brother has the perfect home for it.
Before the motor comes out, last thing was to check the fit of these headers that I have had forever, given to me by the late Ray Cronin, a jeep racer on the Archer team in the 60's. They are unknown brand, could even be homemade, and have never been used. I like it, so I am ditching the pair of Hookers.
Finally, removed the bell housing bolts and hooked up the hoist, out she comes.

No, they're Warn, and in '65 they had to be added aftermarket. I almost didn't send them with the axle because they are in such good shape, but I would have to hear about it later.

Thinking about it, I better look at the motor sooner rather than later in case it needs to go on a field trip to the machinist. I'm worried that the low oil pressure could have damaged bearings, and much more.
Other than a lot of silver paint in the pan, non-magnetic, nothing too bad at this point. No big chunks, and no broken rings or scored cylinders.
No major wear on the cam or lifters, but the cam bearings are gone. So yep, we're going to the shop. The front cam bearing takes some punishment from the high volume oil pump this had. And from that bearing the oil goes up top, but I have found no damage to the valve train, so I am not taking the heads to the machine shop.
Got a pile of parts to go in the morning. I will have him clean it, polish the crank, install new cam bearings, glaze break the cylinders, and supply all bearings and rings.

What are all the plans for it? Brakes, fresh up engine and a front end? Anything else? Is that a 30 or 44 I see in the one pic?

Jay, the plan is for my son Nick to be able to safely follow (or lead) me and several of our other Hi-Lo's, Jamboree, Rubicon and Barrett regulars, and tow a trailer if necessary. So it's basically going to move into the 90's (by jeep standards). That means more track width, a little wheelbase, a low-ish spring over, 37's, 44 front, HP60 rear, lockers, ram assist, rocker protection, roll cage, seats. And I'm sure I'm forgetting something. One goal is to share a lot of drivetrain with my 3B, so we have common spare parts, and not need to have to haul more crap. And if something bad happens, both jeeps are equally capable and well equipped. So yeah, it's getting a major change, but I really think my dad would want it to be used, vs. sitting watching us leave without it. And, sharp eye, the front end is a 44, and that is what I am starting while I wait for the motor to come back.

61". Tires will be 1/3 in, 2/3 out of the body. On my 3B I went 58", because the body is 3" narrower. I think the proportions are right with that width.

The motor is delivered to a highly recommended machinist in the Carson Valley, so I am turning my attention to the front end. But first...today's camping photo. 10,000 feet up in the Eastern Sierra. Nick is getting the griddle hot on the chuck wagon.

Thanks, Jack. Not Douglas, It's a guy that works in a race shop in Reno, and has a back yard shop at home. PM if you need info. We'll see how it goes, but I have a good feeling.
