Not a ton to report. I was able to remove sheet metal bracket bow holders on the drivers side of the rig. I plan or ordering new ones and also add the bow holders on the rear corners since mine should have had them but the P/O must of had then removed.

I got 90% of the new brake lines in except for the S-bended ones on the front end. Currently trying to figure out how those go on because there is zero clearance. [IMG]

The rear part of the Walcks kit fit flawless, but the front end not so much. However, I thought these lines were more brittle than they accually are, but I guess I'm used to old brittle lines as these new stainless lines are pretty easy to bend. Hense the clearance issue between the lines and the distance between the front axle.

Got the steering wheel puller from Mike and tried to remove that wheel. Ended up cutting it off as nothing I've thrown at that thing seemed would work or make it budge. Made the mistake of cutting into the threads on the shaft (don't work on your rig angry would be my best advice moving forward). But I had a F.I. moment during the heat of the battle that I now regret. [IMG]

Now I can't get the nut for the steering wheel to grab the threads. Might borrow a thread chaser at work and see if I can limp it on there. The grey stuff is the anti seize I have on the threads in the event I need to remove it to replace the shaft. [IMG]

On the plus side, being underneth the rig for so long today, I'm happy to report I must have consumed at least 23 lbs of 70 year old dirt that was kind enough to fall into my mouth. So I could skip lunch and continue wrenching so at least I had that going for me. [IMG]

Got a little done this weekend. Got the last of the brake lines installed and moved toward the hood. Found some mystery holes on either side, maybe 1.5 inches wide. Holes were on both sides of the hood. Still trying to figure out what that was all about. If anyone has some insight, I'm just curious.

So I stripped the inside of the hood and welded some things up. Coated everything with zinc primer for now.

Moved onto the bow tie mounts. I decided to bolt them on instead of weld them. My thinking was I could remove them later when I dig into the body since I know there is bondo there. I could always use the holes later to tack everything in. Kinda glad I went that route because I'm pretty sure the forward mount is not on correctly. Should be canted upward but that didn't dawn on me until later . . . sonava#%$*

I will say this for the previous owner. I'm not sure if I should be unhappy because he sucked at body work; or if I should be happy he sucked at body work because I can literly see everything he touched and/or tried to cover up. . .

From the location, I would guess they had some small round side-marker lights on it. Nice work!

Removing multiple layers of 70 year old paint. I love taking things down to bare metal, call me crazy. Coated in red oxide.

New choke cable and late model cj2a temp gauge went in from Walcks today. Makes the rest of my gauges look like garbage. The next newest gauge is that M-38 speedo the previous owner installed, back when he claimed this rig only had 800 original miles. I think he was also selling ocean front property in Arizona.

New fuel lines from Walcks went on today. Everything matched up perfectly. It's nice to see that hodge podge of cobbled together metal and rubber fuel lines out of there. I'll move onto reinstalling the gas tank, and the I need to adjust the valves and remove that valve cover in favor of the NOS f-scripted valve cover I have lying in wait.

Found some demons. I could tell this drivers side panel had some bondo work done. So as I was removing more of that DIY spray on bed liner from the inside I found a few holes that were filled with bondo. So I decided to cut that cancerous sheet metal out and weld in a new patch panel, but then my welder ran out of both gas and .024 wire at the same time.

Tomorrow is another day . . . I guess it will give me time to look up more welding videos at the University of Youtube. (y)

I suck at welding 16 gauge!

Got a new set of gauges arrive in the mail today from another member, who decided to go another route with his M-38 and shipped these to me.

    Thanks Mark! (y)

I pulled the drivers side fender and stripping it down to bare metal, and the fender was MANGLED and had a ton of bondo on it. My guess is it suffered from a tree strike. I wasn't sure if I could save it or not. The lip of the fender was bent inward and it had about a 1/3 inch valley of a dent that went across the entire top of the fender going east/west. It also suffered from a few metal tears so I had to weld those up, and another baseball sized dent toward the bottom of the fender near the bolt hole where it mounts to the side step. So lots of hammer and dolly work, metal shrinking, and of course a little bondo. I should have taken a before shot, but I forgot. The fender isn't perfect, but its alot better than it was . . . "look mom, my flat fender jeep has flat fenders again."

I ordered paint and it is suppose to come in the mail tomorrow. Which I'll hold in reserve because I still have alot of body work to do. I moved back to the tank a rubberized the bottom of the it, then I'll paint the entire tank and call it good enough for government work.

Don't mind the finger imprint of the left side of the tank, after 24 hours I thought the rubber had cured, but you know what they say when you ASSume something. :banghead:

Found some more demons . . . who TF' fills a two inch hole in the sheet metal with filler? Bubba the bondo bandit, that's who :steamed:

Surgery is progress, I still suck as welding 16 gauge!

My grinding skills are improving, so I have that going for me . . .

Got some work done today. If anyone knows what these holes are for near the cab opening, I'm all ears. They had these rubber plugs in them that appeared factory, but maybe not? Maybe its a bubbaifcation

Easter Bunny was hiding eggs, and he was kind enough to sand blast by windshield. The Easter Buddy only has a 2hp/ 10 Gallon air compressor, so it took him the entire day.

One more seat done, only took 2-3 hours. I need a bigger air compressor for sand blasting, this is getting ridiculous . . .
