Bravo and we'll done Maury. I personally am impressed with the level of detail and care you are putting into these such as paying close attention to how the typewriter would raise and lower the numbers and to match up the date and or vin location to the letters directly above or below to match the originals. Thank you for taking the time to pick up and make available this resource to those of us doing full restorations!

In helping Maury perfect the reproductions he was creating, I took these close up pics of my very rough dash sticker to help show the weight of the type strike and that it was indeed beneath the clear. It would appear and stands to reason, that the stickers were first typed, then had the clear layed over them for protection.

VIN sticker that was in my 73 when I bought it. Luckily I took a pic of it the day I brought it home. It fell completely apart when I masked and painted.

I had Classifieds ads posted for awhile, but I think they eventually expired, and I just haven't gotten around to re-posting them.

However, I have all the templates I developed for the various stickers (as shown in Post #20: Source For Dash Vin Stickers ), and will be glad to help you with that. Please PM me and I'll send you the details.

Yes, and thanks for your interest. The ads expired awhile back (and the forum doesn't allow long-term classifieds ads).

I'll send the ad info to you via PM, but as today is Thanksgiving it may be tomorrow before I'll be able to get to that.

I'm pleased to report that the moderators have decided to include my service to create the artwork for dash VIN stickers in the Vendor Directory. As soon as the listing with the information you'll need is posted, I'll add a link to it here. Sorry for the delay, and thanks for your patience.

For any who may be interested, I've added a few more reproduction VIN sticker formats for model years 1976-1979, below, to the original batch I worked up last year.

(All the formats I've developed to date are shown in Post #20 of this thread.)

This VIN sticker, Format 6, appears to have been used only during the 1976 model year. Some in this format had the manufacturing date line-printed on them, and some didn't, so it's up to the individual owner whether to include that or not. This sticker measured 1.75" x 4":

Variations of this VIN sticker, Format 7, were used from 1977 until 1980 by AMC, and measured 2.5" x 4.5". These stickers sometimes included the assembly-line printed manufacturing date, but other times did not. At the owner's option, this date can either be left off or added as shown below:

This similar VIN sticker used by American Motors in Canada from 1977 to '80, Format 8, also measured 2.5" x 4.5":

Hi Steve, I don't have a database of 1969-79 serial numbers vs. manufacturing dates per se. However, if you want to PM your serial number to me, I'd be glad to compare it to those on the photos of original VIN stickers I've collected, and let you know what I find. Depending on how many I have in the same general s/n range as yours, this may help to at least somewhat narrow down the likely month your Jeep was manufactured.

Was 1969 the first year for the dash VIN stickers?

Yes - prior to 1969, the only VIN locations on the CJ's were the metal plate screwed (later riveted) to the firewall, and the stamped number on the frame.
