I’m wrapping up a Saginaw power steering conversion and am stumped by the power steering hose. I bought one or two I thought might work but they were not right. I need 5/8 on one end 11/16 on other- both inverted flare.
My current plan is to just take the whole Jeep to a hydraulic hose shop and have them do the bending and crimping. Is that silly?

Is it silly ? No, not really, I just made a templet from stiff wire and took it to a shop. Works great.

I used Flex lines from www.graystonesystems.com. Call Bill Deering at 1-714 969-0775 New Flex Pressure line.JPG Rosie's Steering Box.JPG

Saginaw steering was a stock option, so there are stock hoses..
Easier to buy an adapter for whatever end doesn’t fit.. assuming it’s the pump since that’s normally the variable depending on year..

Similar to Lockman, I just used Eaton/Aeroquip reusable hydraulic hose ends and hose. Most Saginaw systems run approximately 1200 psi on the pressure side.

I had a heck of a time getting affordable a/c hoses in Ca. I stumbled across this place. Made to fit anything you want and very reasonable. I'm not sure if they make Power Steering hoses but they were super helpful. maybe worth giving them a call.

You really want the tubing size at each end, not the nut size. The return line is at low pressure, so you can scrounge both ends at the junkyard, or use some kind of universal end - you can get length of hose you need and put it together with clamps. Your parts store should sell PS return hose in bulk.

A pressure line from a CJ with power steering might work. There was no power steering in 1967, but starting in '72 there was, and the configuration is pretty close to what you have with a V6 and power steering. If you're friendly with your local parts store, they could order in one of these and you could compare it with your coat hanger mock-up. Doesn't cost them anything but a bit of labor to get stuff for you to examine at the counter.

Thanks all for the other ideas...I wasn’t looking forward to dragging the whole Jeep into town.

The following pictures show the power steering conversion on my 1970 J/C C101 but it should be very similar to your application.
I got two different stock lines from O'Reily's as sent here.

I ended up using the 91578 because it had the greatest amount of clearance to the underside of the grill, it is bent from the manufacture to the contour of the bottom of the grill.

It threads into the gear and goes directly out to the frame edge and then back under the shock mount and inside the fender. The tubing appears much closer to the bottom of the grill in this picture...that is because I didn't have it threaded into the gear when the picture was taken.

The factory end for the pump connection was way off from what was needed so I had a 90* end put on by the local NAPA store, that cost about $17.00 and took only a few minutes. If you do this be sure to clock the 90* end exactly where you want it before it gets crimped on. The hose end you end up using will depend on what pump mount you are going to use (a high pump mount like I used or a low pump mount or something else)

The front brake line junction block bolt made a convenient place to attach a bracket to help hold it firmly in place. I did some very slight bending by hand here so that it wouldn't come into contact with the inside of the fender.

I had painted the line black so it didn't stand out so much. The system was flushed and filled with new fluid and all is working properly. I have about $40.00 total into it, I feel pretty good about how this came out.

    Thanks for the compliment.

I should add that the vehicle lookup for the line was a 72 to 75 CJ5 and/or 72 to 73 Commando. Note that there seems to be the two different shapes of lines as seen in the first picture.

Also be aware that if you have a large bodied shock the clearance between the line & the shock body could be very close, it was acceptable with the shock I am running.
