Looking awesome! What’s the diameter of the U bolts...3/8” ?
I had to enlarge the holes on my spring plate to accept the larger 1/2” diameter U bolts that BDS uses. Are your springs labeled for correct direction and front/back?
Can’t wait to see the new pics of your Jeep stance!

Yes, the new u-bolts are larger so I have to enlarge the spring plates to 1/2”. The springs are front and rear specific, the rears having shims already installed to adjust for the driveline angle. As soon as the longer u-bolts come in I’ll be back on it! (y)

Cool Cool! I figured they would be labelled, but thought I'd mention just in case. Nice that the RC also has the larger 1/2" U bolts, makes those 3/8" ones look so wimpy. But of course they weren't if they have lasted 50+ years!

Front is done. :bananatool: Got all of the old suspension and pivot eye bushings pressed out (what a PAIN!) and new pivot eye bushings, shackles and hardware installed. Front end is back on the ground and torqued. This is going to look awesome, I believe it will settle some, hopefully, since my shackles are a more inverted than before. It sits perfect! Now, just for those longer rear u-bolts :waiting:

The copious amount of (high quality) photos in this thread tell the real story. :rockn:

The rattle can paint is fabulous. Can't wait to see the suspension finished up--what a great buyer's guide for those of us shopping for same.

Thanks! I’ll be sure to post up how the springs ride as well as they settle in. (y) I’ve actually been filming this process too as I go along so I can edit it and make it into a video for YouTube. Maybe I’ll be one of those YouTube stars someday :clap: I am JUST kidding!

I’m not sure there’s too much interest for old Jeeps on YouTube but I hope someone somewhere finds it interesting or helpful in one way or another!

There was no orientation in the instructions (which are vague) but they physically will not fit the other way. The shock body will be right up against the leaf pack and u-bolts. [IMG]

Does it really matter? I've heard from some that it's user preference.

Also surprised there's no rubber "accordion" boots included with the shocks.

Bilstein say's logo right side up and Monroe says oil tube (outside chamber) down with boot up. Some designs require proper orientation and some say not to use horizontally.

It’s a gas charged shock, not hydro, so does it really matter? I hope it doesn’t because it literally won’t fit the other way. It will hit my u-bolts and spring packs.

Try one on the floor upside down see if it works the same as one pointed the other way. My new to me adjustable ones don’t work at all upside down. Not gas charged but have little to no resistance until you flip em back up.

I ran shocks upside-down on my CJ5 for years without issue.

Just tried this. Either way I put the shock (shaft up or shaft down) they go in and rebound exactly the same. I’m going to say I’ll be just fine (y)

If they only work one way, the shock will say “This end down”

New u-bolts showed up today!!:clap:She is back on the ground, torqued down, and ready to go! Next is to take it to get an alignment then I’ll be good to go. Very happy with the stance! All in all I am pleased. NOTE: I did talk to Rough Country about the shock mounting orientation today. They said that it wouldn’t really hurt the shock to run it either way (shock body up or shock body down) but they do recommend shock body down. So I flipped them around. I added a spacer to the spring plate shock mount to push the shock away from the springs/u-bolts. It just clears!
