the doghouse is the only way. there is a diagram to build a gantry in the FSM to lift the engine up and out the door to do any engine work.
hinging the cab forward would be ideal, but i wouldnt trust my work. hit the brakes and it would tilt forward with me and my dog in it, no thanks. there is no access panel in back. you take the box off and can get at the transmission easily.
in the wide track FC's, there are two removable vented panels in the front wheel wells above the frame, but on the narrow tracks, nothing.
its 4 bolts to remove the cab from the frame, plus misc throttle/brake/clutch linkages. im thinking a shop would be proficient at this if they didnt have the gantry on hand.

Interesting - the only one I have seen somewhat up close had a panel in the back - but it easily could have been a mod from the owner. It had a engine swap so might have been part of that.

the grate is welded to the body. a removable panel may be nice, but with the dog house off, you really can reach everything but the radiator.

Ahh....got it....I always assumed that panel grate was removeable. thanks for the info...not to add any pressure but some members of my local 4wd club are quite interested in these new to them FCs and I have been showing them pieces of your build thread....keep up the momentum.

no pressure added. we just got hit with winter today. plus monday i began taking 3 classes, Statics, GD&T, and basic tool design, on top of my full time job, and husband/dog owner responsibilities.
FC work is on hold for a bit, unless weather gets better. -2 out is too cold for much of anything but internet scrounging and buying parts. i feel Im officially at a stall in this project.

more pressure from the wife to get brakes and tires put on the CJ i bought for her...

    alright. parts ordered:
    fuel pump
    diff cover gaskets
engine and transmission mounts (still looking for a Tcase mount)
    clutch kit
brakes (master cylinder, wheel cylinders, new shoes, pads, hard lines, flex lines, etc)
engine gasket kit (not doing much with it, replacing the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, etc)
    wire harness

help me spend some money fellas, what am i missing mechanically that i should replace now, vs later? i don't want to revisit pulling the cab off.

maybe i will do a roadkill garage style checklist on cardboard.....i like that. looks good to see items crossed off.

temps are above 30 finally and looks to be spring weather from here on out. garage time is in my future.
hopefully tap my trees for sap season tomorrow, get my R.O system up and plumbed to boot.

    have a great weekend guys.

    I changed this into this:
    IMG950443001001.jpg Resized_20190522_153153.jpeg
I took down an old willow tree. Neighbors have an outdoor wood boiler. They wanted the wood. They wanted to give me money and I said no way. But then I looked around his VERY American picker-esque yard and I said "you have any old Jeeps laying around?" He said "I just got rid of them but I have the stack of wheels and tires you can have." Deal! Now they're going on FC. I might paint them white in the future but I don't know, maybe a cream color. Rim color is the bottom of the list of FC work.
