I put about 50 road miles on my new suspension Saturday and its awesome. Rides like a YJ. On Sunday evening I took the jeep out for a few hours of ranch road riding. Steep hills, off camber, flat dirt roads, and some mildly flexy situations. My dad rode with me for a before and after comparison. No comparison!
The softer suspension allows so much more grip, places that I would have used considered using 4wd before I did in 2wd without even using the rear arb!
On the way home I noticed a ringing sound that went away after 45mph or so. It was a maddening run this thing into the next possible tree kinda sound...... Jacked the jeep up at home and fired it up. Here is what I found.....

I'm going to guess that a piece of welding slag is broken loose in the tube. Back to the drive line shop this morning, he was pretty embarrassed..... We agreed I wouldn't tell any one...... He has been doing my race car stuff for years.

There's a rear shield that protect the rear pinion seal, (sits behind the yoke) that'll make that exact sound when it gets loose.
At speed centrifugal force keeps it in place, slow down and it goes ringy ding ding.
Thought I was being followed by an ice cream truck when it first happened to me.
Glad you got it figured out.

Your secret is safe with us. ;)

It's great you were able to find the noise without a lot of searching.

    Update!
I picked the drive line up yesterday afternoon. When I asked to see what was in the tube making all that racket he told me it fell out and he couldn't find it.... :blah:
I would venture to say it was so big that he felt dumb.....
