Any words of wisdom about painting the raised Jeep logo on the sides and the Willy’s logo on the tailgate? I am thinking free hand would be the way. Before I did it, just wanted to see if anyone has an easier way. What kind of paint did you use?

    Hi Cliff,

I had good success using a duplicolor touch-up paint (avail. at AutoZone) on my '64's "JEEP" lettering. The hardest part is the whole 5 minutes of masking off each edge of each letter with masking tape. The Duplicolor touch-up comes with its own brush. Even if you don't tear off pieces of masking tape to cover the perimiter of each edge, a steady hand will make it look just fine. Perhaps have a paper towel or some thinner handy in case you mess up on a letter. Good luck!

I painted mine white then masked the raised letter face and trimmed with a razor blade then painted the body color and unmasked and shot the clear on.

Same here, I used a Duplicolor pen and just did it free hand. Took my time and it wasn’t too bad

My daughter hand painted them with a small artist's brush. Used whatever paint we had on the shelf...Or maybe it was model paint?

Do you have a link by any chance?

A small paint roller, short nap,3-4in also works well?
Don't over think it, it's a JEEP, ment to get scratched up, beat on, and rough housed!
Have fun with it? To me a scratched up, dented, muddy CJ, is more impressive then a clean shinny perfect CJ.

Back in the '80's was the last time I painted the raised letters. I peeled the paper off a cigarette filter and straightened a paperclip, poked though the center. Minature paint roller!
It worked very well, and almost took more time making the "roller" than it did to apply the paint. An old-timer taught me that trick.

my 71 did not have "JEEP" on the side by the V6 emblem, painted different than the vehicle from the factory...maybe because it was white?
