my t90c has a 15 tooth reverse idler. Is this another unique gear associated with the t90c? I was going to replace it due to minor pitting. Thought I read that the 16 tooth will work also. ????

Change in tooth count will change the ratio. I'm going to predict with 99% certainty that you can't do that.

Like Tim says, everything has to match to the cluster, input shaft and the sliding gears as one unit. My FSM shows the different ratios for different transmissions, the T 90 column shift, and the T 90 floor shift have different ratios, but you can't mix them. Good Luck

Tooth count will change diameter, not a chance it will fit unless the mating gear is changed.

The 16 tooth gear is the correct one for all T90 transmissions.
Your 15 tooth gear must be from something other than a T90

IMHO minor pitting is not cause for replacement.

IMG_2294.JPG Thanks Howard! I'll probably let it be. So far I cant source a 15 tooth idler.

Oldtime: all I know is the cluster is the 35 tooth version which I believe is a T90c perhaps that is why the idler us a 15??? I am no expert but this is what was in there when I removed it.
Along with this tag. Case "T90A-1" Thanks to all who replied!

Jeep T90 A and Jeep T90 C use the exact same reverse gear.
    Maybe it's the reverse idler from a T86AA ?
I don't have any T86 transmissions but could check to see if the part numbers are different....

AFAIK It's' also feasible that it came from something like a Studebaker or IH version of the T90.

I just tore down a T86 aa transmission so I checked that ider gear. It is a 15 tooth gear. Counted it 3 times.

    Interesting, From Novavks site:
"T90's were produced with 16 tooth reverse idler gears up to 1965. Models afterward were produced with 15. "

Since I don't know the history of this jeep, all I can say is it had the 35 tooth cluster and a 15 tooth reverse idler.

Shout out to Pete Debella. Purchased all NOS
    9-1/4 clutch kit
    35 tooth T90 cluster
    Reverse idler gears
    Great quality!

Was browsing any threads related to the T90 build issues and came across yours...Great info on the Reverse gear I never thought of...
    I have two T90's...One complete garbage ( original ) & another I just purchased ( was told it came from a International 800..? )
Have to install the 11.5" GM Input shaft. I noticed the front bearing area of the Main-shaft is 0.905" diameter.... T90's Main-shaft measures 0.760"
Bore Dia. of the GM Input shaft measured: 1.205" ( measured both the old GM shaft and new replacement, Omix 18880.09 @ 1.205" )
Two sizes of needle bearings, 0.218" and 0.156"... Installed nets:
    0.218" nets: 0.769" ( 0.009" clearance )
    0.156" nets: 0.893" ( Main-shaft won't fit as it is 0.905"....0.012" too small )
Please see my post: T90 Confusion

I replied to your other post on the T-90, but am still confused at your reference regarding "the 11.5" GM input shaft". The T-90 was never used in any GM vehicles as far as I know, so how are you planning to install a GM input shaft in a Warner T-90?

On the Omix-Ada site refers to this Input Shaft as: V8-GM Version...same as Crown p/n: 906203
    it is in fact 11-1/2", 1-1/8", 10-Spline

That sounds like the T90J longer shaft from the wagons and trucks with the 226 six. Yes, that shaft is commonly used with the thick aftermarket adapters to the Chevy bellhousing. I would still stay away from the Omix transmission parts as their reputation precedes them! A used wagon input shaft in decent condition would be much better in my opinion.

    Hi Donny,
I get it and appreciate the "heads up". Just learning the sources for these parts.
Right now for this project... I have told myself to stay within my estimated budget.
Pricing is the key and my sometimes directive and direction to my main goal.
My promise to my friend who gave us this before he passed; to get running and play with.
Wife and I call this little jeep " EMA " hence the screen name. ( EMA is part of the Lis. plate # )
Kinda like the little brother of my 1958 4whl truck seen in the background.
This was found in Texas in little parts spread over a field.
Over the past 30 years has evolved into...upgrades including: AC, Pwr. Steer, Disc Br. Front, Currie 9", T98,Spicer 18, and Cruise Cntr., Mtr. 400M, Dual Line Loc system for all four wheels.
    Paint...well
Maybe EMA will get to be upgraded.
    Thanks

    George
