    Hi

I have a ticking noise in my T14 a. First I try to explain what I eliminated and hopefully someone can confirm if I am thinking the right way. The shifting is Ok and good working synchros. The ticking is there When I stop the jeep by putting the clutch and braking till it stops. A normal action when reaching your destination.

1 I had the ticking before and after the rebuild of my dana 18. The rebuild was complete with new gears/shafts/bearings etc.. It was completely worn out . So I thought the ticking came from there. Now the transfer is spinning good without play and completely new exept the case. Shifting OK and no leaks :)

2 When I let the jeep roll and stop the engine and put it in neutral the ticking begins when reaching a low speed ( say 15 miles an hour till stop) So The flywheel is not spinning the clutch is not moving and the frontshaft of the transmission stands still. When running the engine and change rpm the ticking stays at the same constant speed with the car speed. RPM has no influence on the speed of ticking.

In any other gear it also ticks. I mentioned the neutral above to eliminate a ticking flywheel or something else from the front of the transmission.

3 When pulling and moving the shifter with slight preasure left/back ( when ticking) I mostly can stop it . So that's is why I thing it is comming from the trans. But I can not think of what can tick at such a slow speed.

4 lifting the top of the trans shows some wear of the forks. But in my opinion not enough to cause the ticking. But maybe there is some experience on this forum if worn forks can cause this ticking. ( I know how not synchronise gears sound. This if much slower)

5 I can move the gears front to rear. Not sure how much play is acceptable. But it seems pretty much play. I can move the gears around and can not find something what touches something making the ticking. In neutral it is not silent

6 The rear gear at the outside of the case connecting the transfer has a lot of play on the splines of the shaft.

May be some options from this form of other things to test/ check?

Like to hear from you Thanks in advance

Check drum parking brake. It can cause a slight hangup if everything is not perfectly round an make noise in the transfer case or transmission.

Man. You are right. Unbelevable. It is gone. Did drive and puled the handbrake. Something balanced I think. Thank you. This was the last to think of. Learned again. I also checked the u joint. It seems oké

Why is there play in your splines if you rebuilt the T-case? Its very common for that gear to get wallowed out because the nut tends to loosen up

There is play at the trans shaft at the back. There is no play at the transfer
