I'm think I might take Willie over to have the tranny guy to have him check the throw out bearing. If he has to pull it to get to it, I'm thinking about having him go through it while its out and at a minimum replace all seals and gaskets. I already have a replacment mounts that I haven't got to yet but have him use then while at it. But what should I expect as to cost to go thru the T90 and transfer case while its down?

Ask the mechanic his hourly rate. That's your best bet if you want an estimate

Pretty much every transmission and transfer case that you see from any of the big Jeep sellers is drop shipped from Herm.

I hadn't even thought about checking his prices. Good idea. But it's too much in freight and hassel to send to him vs the local who pulls it and reinstalls it. Other than body/paint and upholstery, the tranny/TC are the last big things so I might as well get them gone thru. For me to mess with trying to pull it on the garage floor on my back without a lift or tranny jack is just too much.

Tis a shame that the ECJ5 "Good Ol' Boy Network" cannot come through for you. If I was closer, I'd come to help and bring my tranny jack. Honestly. I like road trips.

I want to use some of the expertise here to rebuild my first of 3 T90's. I will look for someone close by to guide me first time. I don't think they are that hard to rebuild, just looking for someone close who has done it before for guidance. I like learning new things, with one spare and 2 Jeeps to rebuild, by the end of the 3rd, I should have a good understanding of operation, and repair.
I will however make sure one is done at a time.

The T-90 is about as easy of a transmission to rebuild as there is. It was the first transmission i ever took apart 24 years ago. Rebuilt it in my backyard. I could probably do it start to finish in 2 hours if I had all the parts and out of the jeep. Others could do it a lot quicker i bet. Really though, why do you want to take it apart? Popping out of 2nd gear? Grinding?

Ask about freight costs too. I recall a post saying Herm has a way to get transmissions back and forth using a cheap plastic cooler as a box.

I have in the past pulled a Dana 20 and T-14 on my back in my driveway, using just the factory jack to support the bell and muscle power. I would suggest using a cheap rolling floor jack to help lift it in and out, but you don't need a lot of special equipment. Folks here has also lifted the whole unit through the floor with a come-along. Easier if you have a roll cage to lift from, but building a suitable truss to lift from would be easy. You don't need a lot of specialized equipment - the Borg-Warner 3-speeds are not that heavy, and Jeeps are far enough off the ground you don't need stands or a lift.

In my case it's related to a disturbing noise I'm hearing (Hearing Strange Noise From Engine Compartment) and determining where it's coming from. I'm trying out narrow it down so first stop is the engine builder. But if that's not it, then to the tranny guy to check out the throw out bearing. If he already has it out, while paying for that labor, might as well go thru into check it out and stop oil leaks.
