It runs! Been a long time since I heard it running. Still need to do some tuning but will worry about that after I get it full assembled. The next major step is getting the final body work done and then paint. I think there is a small light at the end of the tunnel. Honeywells; it seams the early Renegades built in 69 all have the hood mounted reflectors with matching ones on the rear quarter panel. I'm not sure exactly when they changed them but have seen them on the early ones. Some of the surviving promo photos usually show the later fender mounted reflectors.

    Hey Carter... you still around?

This is very interesting. It's a marked R1 with '69 style hood reflectors Is it really a '70 Renegade? Do you have the VIN on this one? If it's really a '70, does it have the production date tag still on it?

We have documented other renegade I's with hood reflectors. I'm pretty sure all have fallen within what would be considered production dates for model year 1970.

Hood reflectors extended into the 1970 model year production.

Yeah, I just saw some others in digging thru my files. August 1, 1969 was the changeover from '69 to '70 production at VIN 8305 017 360351.

Did Carter post his VIN? I didn't see it but I should go back and look again.

Send him a private message and it (invariably) will trigger a message in his e-mail, if the settings are set up as such.

    What are you researching Jim?

If you do a search on the forum you'll find Carter posted:

"I have 362017 and 362023. Both Prairie gold Renegade 1's built October 1969"

My VIN is within 200 of Carter's.

Do you have accurate documentation of serial numbers corresponding to month of production during the "lost years" of July 1967 through the end of the 1971 model year production and the model year switch overs? Jeep may have done some "interesting" things regarding VINs and model years for registration purposes. They published Model Change Trade Bulletins that listed serial numbers for the new model year and included a statement to the affect: New and unused 'Jeep' vehicles of the following models, with serial numbers beginning with those indicated below and licensed on or after September x, 1969, may be considered 1970 models for purposes of registration.

Yeah I'm still around. Zoomer posted the vin's already and are correct. Interestingly I ran across the CJ5 built just before 362017. It was not a Renegade 1

You can just upload files from the computer now. No more having to host them. I've got several photos of it in various stages from rebuilding the frame of the flatty, but I'll let you post yours. ;)

No computer at home and apparently my phone photos are too large to post. Sorry I'm not more tech savvy. More of a mechanical brain here

Well, send your photos to your cousin and have him post and re-post them all. They're mostly all gone from page 1 of this thread.

Those are nice "deep dish" sorta rims. I love stamped steel rims.
If they were black, what are they now?

Hey jeepermc, I guess you can post what you got. I can't figure out how to downsize my photos to make the cut. To all following, to say this has been a labor of love would be an understatement. This was the 1st thing I ever wanted and have fond memories with grandpa in it. Learning about the R1s has been a unique experience and I feel I know more than most. This site has been a huge help over the years.

Still black. Most Kelsey Hayes wheels you see on the Renegade 1 are white, but looking at photos of Grandpas from when it was new, they appear to be black from the factory. Or at least when he took possession of it from the dealer.

These are the only photos I have. If I recall, last time I was up there the fenders were painted and installed as well.
