2 different kinds. one with return, one without.

May have different fittings too. Might have to fab new ones. The old one might not have been right either.

Also, the fuel line discounted by the filter gives a couple of good sprays then dribbles.

I have an electric pump installed as well. Can I just put a block off plate and remove the pump? Is it the same as a small block Chevy? Thanks, Chris

There are some different fitting and some of the fittings are straight and some have elbows. Any will work, as long as you have the correct number - most likely you have in inlet from the tank, and outlet to the carb, and probably and outlet return to the tank on a 69. You can run just a mechanical or just an electrical if you like. You can remove the mechanical pump and make a little blank plate cover over the mechanical pump opening. I went the other way - when I got mine, the PO had both pumps running. Turned out the mechanical pump was pretty weak and probably had a leaking diaphragm - ended up with fuel in the oil system. I removed the electrical pump and only run the mechanical pump (with new pump of course). Has worked great - no issues starting or running at odd angles etc - including my recent Moab trip.

Mine is without the return line... it's got a hose barb on one side and a line fitting on the other (the new one) old one has fittings on both sides.. line from tank is spliced with a hose, so I could use. Just don't want to remove and can't get it put back... Chris

Thanks fino, I think I might have got gas in the oil... kinda smells like it... the PO installed an electric pump for some reason.. he said sometimes I might have to use it. Possibly the eccentric wore out?? Does the timing cover and other things have to come off to change?? If so,, I'd rather do the block off plate..

Well, you gotta fix the leaks. Fires burn jeeps up pretty good. The electric fuel pump should negate the need for a mechanical. Personally, I would run a mechanical and be done with it.

I am with Chris on this one...mechanical is simple replacement - 2 bolts with a new gasket or rtv. Seems electric pumps get installed due to a bad mechanical pump, and for whatever reason, people seem to like to add the electrical in-line instead of just fixing the mechanical. The new aftermarket mechanical pumps are kind of cheap and the ethanol rich fuels do seem to eat away at the pump diaphragm. Fuel pump eccentrics can wear, but that is much less likely the problem than just a bad pump diaphragm.

One more thing - check your tank (underseat i assume) and make sure the tank pick-up has only an outlet. If it has 2 fitting nipples - then you might as well run the return line (helps avoid vapor lock if its hot).

Thanks fino, I bought a nos delco 400001. I seen it used on different posts... the old one is rigged as far as the fuel line, they used a couple of fittings to make it work... it has a hose from the tank and the hard line to the fuel filter... I'm gonna give this one a shot.. thanks, Chris
