Flanged 44 Zerks??

    If my 71 flanged 44 doesn't have factory zerks for the axle bearings, is it a good idea to install them?

    Lubed by diff fluid not necessary.

    There are inner seals on a 44, they shouldn't have diff fluid in the bearing.

    1971 flanged axle uses same bearing as my 2004 wrangler 44 .no inner seals here .lubed by diff. oil on my rigs.

    Never seen zerks on flanged offset. My tapered offsets have inner seals and outer zerks. Ymmv

    My 44 had inner seals when I dis-assembled it.

    IIRC some flanged 44s have inner seals, some don't. None have zerk fittings. Also IIRC you pack the bearing before installation regardless of whether there is an inner seal or not. It is sufficient in both cases. I have not heard of these axles' bearings being starved for lubrication.

    im the winner there, replaced them in the 74 left the inners out figuring the 90wt would do it,nope failed less than a year later. put the seals back.

    yes the seal im guessing holds the grease in, I figured the 90 wt would keep em lubed it didn't.
