There is a lot of space under the driver's seat of my 1974 CJ5. I thought about a second gas tank but sitting on all that gas isn't a comforting thought and besides I have 10 liters mounted on the back. I was wondering if anyone has mounted an sliding box or drawer for additional secure storage under their driver's seat?

I store stuff there. I found a nice plastic box with a lid And fill it with tools, tie wire, spare lug nuts, tire plugs and tools, etc etc. I also found a mount for my large MAG light and screwed it to the floor. The box just clears the seat mount and I keep a roll of duct tape on top of it.. Also along the side are several pairs of gloves, my winch control and my airdown tool. Etc etc

I built a box to house my radio and two speakers under there. Didn't want to hack into the dash....

On day trips, I carry water in canteens. If the trip is longer or where water may not be readily available I carry 5 litre Scepter cans in my 1/4 ton trailer full of it.

As a cabinetmaker - having to deal with drawers opening during shipping, all I can think about is the drawer flying open and crushing your ankles in a collision. If you are to go the drawer route, make sure there is a strong, positive latch or two holding it closed.

Over the years I have "stuffed" stuff under that seat using everything from paper grocery bags (ah, what we did when young) to cardboard boxes to an army duffle bag to all shapes and sizes of plastic bins. I am looking for something more sturdy, more part of the jeep and more secure.

This was my experience - I used to put soft items like sleeping bags and clothing duffels down there and strapped them in. Anything heavy and rigid would migrate out with enough bumps and jolts.

I mounted a large halotron fire extinguisher under my seat. I chose not to go with the norm and not put it on my roll bar.

I do not want to sound rude and unappreciative BUT I could not care less about what you stuff under your driver seat. Sorry! What I am really, really, really looking for is if anyone has come up with a securely mount, lockable storage container design that mounts under the driver seat of a 1974 CJ5. From the lack of responses that deal directly with that I am assuming no one has come up with such a system.

I wish I could. But I have no mechanical abilities what so ever. I can't even hang a picture without smashing my thumb or putting a hole in the wall. And if I put a hole in the wall I am really in trouble. (Thank God for Command Picture Hanging Strips. Even those I can mess up.) I know my limitations.

Perhaps consider small firearm safes. I would expect that their sizes and multitude of lock designs (key, code, biometric) might work wonderfully for you.
