I have a 73 cj5 and I just completed a disc brake conversion on the front. I'm still shaking it out but noticed today that my lug nuts loosened on the left front. I installed a corvette type mc and bias valve as well. Like I said, I'm still working out the kinks but I've never seen the lug nuts go loose like that. Thoughts?

What sort of wheels & nuts are you running?

Did you change the studs when you converted?

yes, I changed the studs...15" alum wheels...would the studs possibly stretch a little after initial install?

Your wheels- do they use flat shouldered lug nuts or tapered? If flat shouldered did you grease the studs before putting the lug nuts on?

no, they're tapered...it appears one of the wheel weights was just slightly rubbing the caliper mount bracket. Seems odd but I guess that little bit of mechanical interference could have caused it.

Or your studs were not quite all the way pressed in.

good point...re-torqued today and drove around after getting the balance weights moved and it appears to be ok...just keep an eye on it for a while I guess...

Check the run out of your disks. If greater than .005, it can cause problems. I had issues with lug studs loosening because of it.

    What Daryl said.

Also, you should always re-torque your wheels after 20 or so miles, especially if running aluminum wheels.
