Can anyone recommend and heavy duty Dana 27 Differential Cover, my stock one has taken some direct hits and needs to be replaced.

I thought all the ones for front axles are 1/8" thick material. How heavy is this cover? Sometimes folks put covers for the front axle on the back axle for some extra armor. Looks like the cover for a 30 is the same.

I have seen a lot of chrome once that are a lot lighter gauge than the stock ones.

I use this. Cheaper than the HD cover but definitely does the trick. The D27 and D30 use the same cover.

Are you sure the 30 cover with fit the 27? there are a lot of options for the 30 cover.

    Thanks,
    Chip.

The picture I posted is of the D27 diff guard. I took it off my D27 and put it on the D30.

The stock d27 cover is at least1/8" thick and pretty tough. Your chrome one looks like it may be thinner. If you want a really tough one, find a D25 cover from a WW2 GPW or MB. They are cast steel and have "use hypiod oil only" cast in just below the fill plug. They also have a vent above the fill plug. The part number is GP-4016 at least for the Ford part. They should interchange between the d25, d27, and d30 axles. If you break one of these, you've got bigger problems.

Any pull a part. Every low pinion Cherokee and wrangler has the same cover. Should be free or just about there.

That's what I did after I tore up the front cover on my Dana 25. The cast steel ones off a GPW or MB are over kill. You will need longer bolts also.

I think the GPW/MB covers are cast iron. But plenty stout. I have one from a GPW that I was going to use in my 3B but that axle sort of went away------

I don't think I've ever seen a thick cover on a 27. I started saving Dana 25 covers because they are thick and thicker than any 27 cover I've seen.

Chip, if you're looking to buy aftermarket, I can vouch for the Solid Axle Industries covers I put on my old diesel truck. They're nice, beefy covers. I'll probably put them on the jeep too at some point. Heavy, reinforced, armored covers that look cool. If the dana 27 and 30 use the same cover, then they have a 30 that should fit.. Tie rod clearance would be the only possible consideration I guess, because they are considerably thicker.

Thanks for all the reply's, I ended up ordering the Dana 30 cover from Ruff Stuff, they were on sales plus they gave me a code for 10% off from my Tie Rod kit order. I was really impressed with the Tie Rod kit so I really didn't have to think to too hard on this one. I will post pictures once installed. FYI- I have the Poison Spyder Bombshell on my 44 Rear and it is really heavy duty and looks great too.

Installed the Ruff Stuff Dif cover today, it is a lot beefier than I thought it was going to be, like 3/8" thick plate, really nice stuff.

Is it me or is the fill plug pretty high up there? Maybe its the cameras angle.

Nice looking cover and surely able to take a shot. I like. Not all choked up with company graphics welded to it and crap. Good choice.
