Just bought this yesterday. 71 Commando with Dauntless, PS, soon to get PB. Has super low miles, but has been sitting a long time. Really very little rust for being in New England this long. Will attempt to get running as is for now and then a full resto/mod a little later down the road. My first ever commando.

Looks glorious, even with the fender bender. Nice color too.

Did some punk do a number on the windshield?

    Looks good.
The damage appears to be limited to the fender, the bumper, grill & hood were spared the carnage.
    T-14 manual or TH-400 automatic?
Should have 2" wide front springs.
Other than a slight crease on the passenger rocker panel they look good in the picture, they are prone to start rusting right behind the area where the doors close.
    Missing one hubcap?

Not sure how the windshield bought the farm. It was parked behind a service station for the last couple of years. Probably a young hoodlum. I think that's where the intake and carb disappeared as well. But I have a couple of spare motors, so no problem there. I think they only put the T14 in the 232, straight six. This one should have the T86, but I have a SM420 kicking around here, with a AA adapter, just saying is all. Yes, I was also impressed with the sheet metal and even the rocker rear panels are solid and every body mount is there and the pucks aren't even blown out. The front floor pans are the only real victims, so far. I even have a Dana 30 out of a 85-86 CJ7 with disc's that should be a good fit for the front, to replace the 27.

I actually took and washed it today, during half time of the Patriots game. I will take a few more pictures tomorrow, if the sun ever comes back out.

71 would have been a T14. Looks like a great start.

timgr, I agree, I was surprised how nice it was. You know what they say, one mans junk is another Jeep at my house.

That looks quite rust free, reletively speaking. Usually, the rockers are gone. How's the lower tailgate look?
Good solid start for a project. Its nice to find one so complete and unmolested. Even the chrome bumpers look good. Nice find! -Donny

Yeh Donny, I am still liking it. Been hunting what I need, but mostly tailgate right now, lower third is see through. Could use doors to, but not from rust, from abuse. I keep thinking the build over in my mind. Can't figure out if I want to do a big resto mod, or keep it mostly stock. I have a complete running Dauntless in a CJ6 that would bolt right in. But then today a buddy put the bug in my ears to go with a long CJ nose and drop a v8 in. Damn it !

Another funny thing with this one. It has a power steering pump mount on motor, but a manual box on the frame. Steers great with the manual box. Wonder if the manual box will fit an early 5 ??

Manual box works best with an F head that you don't have a single horsepower to lose to power steering. The mount is the same so you can use either.
