I picked up a 1962 jeep willy over the weekend.
    Strong running 134 motor.
    T90(I think) transmission.
    Dana 18 t case w/twin stick shifter
    Dana44 rear axle/Dana 27 front axle
    From the VIN (57548126930) it's a 62 cj5.
If I'm wrong, please let me know.

I want to document the build and will post pics/progress as it happens.

The plan: build the wife a dependable road rig, that is capable on mild to medium off road trails.
I want to keep it stock, with minor creature comfort updates.

Currently there is a plow that came with it. Since I have the hydraulic pump already in place, this winter I will be doing a power steering conversion, ditching the Ross box. (Selling the plow, no interest or need for it).

Currently there is a boat gas tank mounted in the back. Want a poly underseat tank.

Want to get a pertronix electronic ditributor to replace the points and condenser.

    That's about it for now....

Nice looking 5. Tub looks real good for a starter. Never seen the wood above the windshield or the bar behind it. Probably one of the prior owners work. I am sure you will get a lot of suggestions here.

Hate to tell you but, you've got a mutt. The body itself is a 1971 or newer. A 1962 would have no side marker lights in the rear of the tub, and the JEEP script on the front of the body would be all upper case. Fenders are correct short fenders without side marker light, hood and windshield also look correct. Not sure on the wood above the soft top channel or the rod on the inside of the windshield. The rod looks like it would interfere with wiper motors, maybe that's why the are missing.

You might hang on to the hitch. You may want it later. Looks like a fun start.

Changed the oil and picked up a filter to replace the oil air bath thingy. I will put it up in the rafters in case a proper restoration happens

Not much of a build update per se. Changing the transmission fluid and found either the most ideal Bubba fix or the most ridiculous lazy fix ever. I bought a new floor pans to weld in I just don't know if I want to keep the Bubba or go back to the stopper plug. 20171127_151738.jpg

In response to my previous post. This bubba POS is gone. Probably responsible for 90%of the oil buildup on the fill side of the transfer case.

43 dollars off of eBay. The last time around I spent 20171128_054130.jpg big bucks on a Painless wiring harness because I didn't know any better. I don't know how that company got to be so big and I'm sure they do fantastic work for modern vehicles but for an early CJ5 almost 400 bucks seems obscene looking back

Thanks, that's how I was feeling about the painless kit. I've never heard anything bad about it, but $400 is a lot of burrito's.

I'm sure many of us would appreciate lot's of pics of the wiring kit install (hint hint) ;)(y)
