On my '67 CJ5, were the side steps an option? If not, what goes in the holes in the floor?
    Thanks!

They were not optional. All CJ Jeeps came with them, and most people took them off.

Those that did not either never took their Jeep on the trail, or smashed the steps on rocks and logs and took them off later anyway.

I DID NOT know that. Very interesting. Thanks Tim. Always a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll just put some plugs in the holes. Steps, maybe later.

The PO of mine had cut the post down and re-welded them higher up. I am assuming for clearance. I'm hoping to restore as much as I can so I am looking to out the taller ones back on. Might be able to see them in my profile pic.

Oh yes, when I got my Ren1 the steps were folded back & up. They are cool if you have survivors but they don't work well if you need the clearance. you can see the stock length in my profile pic.

I see the stock length in your profile pic, but could you put a tape measure between the top of the step and the bottom edge of the tub. I am putting my steps on that I am making from original treads and reproduction brackets. Nothing is lining up.

Even the bolts they sent take a 13mm vs. 1/2 inch..:mad:

    Thanks.

I measured the distance from the top of the step to the bottom of the tub is 5 1/2"

Thanks. Mine ended up at 4 1/2 inches from bottom edge of the tub.

Those are really nice. I don't think you went wrong going an inch shorter.

    Pretty.

I'm waiting for one of the gear-heads here to adapt an automatic retractable set - with LED lighting.
