I might be wrong, but I think the "Willys" speedo only came on the 55 CJ5. They normally run somewhere between $100-$150 and most of them have broken needles. I guess I caught people sleeping when I got this one for $50.

No mechanical changes or anything like that... it's just been my DD without any troubles for a year at this point. Took a little break today and drove up some forest service roads in the high country. Ran into snow pretty quick.

You did a nice job on this. Glad you are enjoying every day. Looks good in the photo, in the snow.

    Long day in the shop...

Yep, the southwind gasoline heater is installed, although not plumbed or wired. It was an easy project, just had to do the following:
-remove original air/water heater from passenger-side firewall and relocate to the center behind the shifters.
-install somewhat modified V6 battery tray on the firewall
-build brackets to mount the heater to the factory battery tray

Plenty of work was done on the Jeep, but none of it was fun stuff.

    New head gasket
    Resurfaced head
    New ARP head bolts
    Rebuilt PCV
    New Radiator and hoses

Jeep is running well again... was gradually losing power as the old head gasket was leaking between cylinders 2 and 3. Hopefully soon it'll be back to the fun stuff.

Did you yank out the heater or is that a flash back pic?

I took the heater out when I did the head gasket... hadn't put it back in yet when I took the pic.

    Gasoline heaters are so neat...

I have one for my 912 and a VW bus 6V heater and a torpedo heater that sounds like a jet when it's running...

    Very cool or hot...

Winter is coming so I finally decided to insulate the hard top. Who knows, might actually make this thing tolerable in the summer as well. It'll be 1/2" foam with the ceiling being flannel and the walls being black vinyl.

Done for the night... we'll go after the vinyl tomorrow.

I'm looking for a radiator and was wondering what yours came out of or what application is it for?

I used a spectra CU1463 radiator that I bought new. You'll have to drill a hole or two to mount it and you'll need flexible adapter hoses from Napa, but it's cheap and seems to work great.

A little more work done... Getting the vinyl to cooperate is a bit trickier than the flannel.

So the starter went out... found a napa starter for a landcruiser that bolted right in after I enlarged a bolt hole. Works great thus far.

Started back in on the gas heater and the CB... Finally found where the controls will go, and it looks like the CB is living on the center console (makes for a nice armrest)

I have that same idea with either flannel or tartan for the interior of my to be gotten half cab for my CJ6 project. What are you plans for the rounded top panels?

I plan on permanently mounted the half cab to the body to cut down on vibrations, squeaks, and rattles and lining the cab with sound deadening material. The donor for my project has A/C so I want to make this pretty comfy.

I'm going to use a flexible rubber mat for the insulation on the corners. I won't be able to upholster it well, so I'm just going to leave it black and hope it fits in with the vinyl. The foam I have would bend, but the tension would want to push it off of the metal.

You may want to try spray on adhesive to keep the foam in place.
