Hello all, sometime ago I bought a t19 wide ratio/Scout D300 combo that was somehow adapted to a Jeep bellhousing and I believe a Jeep input shaft. I bought it as an impulse buy off ebay and picked it up in Las Vegas long before I owned any AMC powered Jeeps. The seller said it had been in a Wrangler and supposedly worked fine. I would like to eventually put this in my 75 CJ6 with a 304.
Initial questions: 1. Is the T19 externally the same as a T18?
    2. Will the floor pan need to be substantially modified? I did some searches on here that refer to T18 swaps but can't seem to find any where the photos of the floor pan still show up.
    3. Would pulling the covers and posting pictures on here of the internals be enough to answer questions about useable condition or should I bite the bullet and take it to a transmission shop for evaluation. I am fairly capable on most mechanical things but have always considered transmissions to be magic and have stayed away from working on them myself.

Sounds like the T19 is pretty much the same as the T18 except for the gear ratios. They were also made in different mounting configurations depending on the manufacterer they were in tended for. IH, Jeep and Ford all used em. I installed a Jeep T18 in my 75 CJ5.

The firsrt thing you need to do is ID which tranny you have. Pictures will help. From the research I did when installing mine, the Ford version is the easiest to use. The least desireable in my opinion is the IH. All can be made to work.

Here's a link to maybe help ya understand what is going on. There are others here who are much more knowledgeable that may specifically answer your questions.

That helps a bit. But it also shows that I need to dig it out of the parts room and take some pictures of what I have sitting here. Thanks Zila.

The T-19 as far as the external size and look is much like it's Older Brother the T-18............but that pretty much is about all that is the same.....Good news is if in fact it is a wide ratio 6:32 low gear there pretty rare. Most were 5:1 transmissions. They do enjoy being Full syncro including 1st and reverse whereby the T-18 was absent of that nice feature. For the unqualified off road stickman that's a big plus and will surely help in keeping the gears inside un-chipped.

If it was already adapted to a Jeep that might be the biggest plus as mounting is unconventional as well as input stick-out length can also be an issue depending on the motor swap.

Floor work for the 19 vs the 18 should not be much different as long as your motor choice length does not move it back to far.

Pictures of the inside will not make any difference..............parts are around but the 6:32 gear sets will be hard to find.

I did a T19 swap on an older cj. If you have a T18 now the floor will not change for a T19 (not sure if you are replacing a T14/T15).
On my older cj the T86 shift tower was farther back and the hole it goes through on the floor had to be moved forward about 2 1/2 inches.
The T18 and T19 are the same in terms of length . The T19 has PTO's on both sides. The counter shaft sits lower in the case.
This only matters if you are using a T18 adapter to adapt to the transfer case. Sounds like a non-issue since yours is mated to a dana 300.
I'm assuming this is a 1980 Scout dana 300 with the Texas bolt pattern. If not it must have an after market adapter using a round pattern dana 300.

If all is well it will be replacing the stock T15. My floor currently has some rust issues and I was preparing to replace it with another CJ floor of the same style. Doing the swap earlier might be a good idea so that I don't end up modifying a stock floor right after I replace it. It is a 1980 Scout 300.

Floorboards for a T-18 equipped CJ change a lot from the 3-speed versions. The outside dimensions of the T-19 are the same as the T-18. You will need to raise and widen the area over the transmission.

I confirmed it is the wide ratio and that it has the Scout transfer case. I also discovered about two cups of clear water somehow found its way inside. Didn't mix with the oil. Found visible rust on parts, much of it actually wiped off with a rag but some of it is real. Debating about whether this is the time for me to learn how to tear down a manual transmission or if I should just wait until after the hollidays to see if I can gather the funds to take it to a shop.

The water ticks me off because I had stored it outside under tarps for awhile instead of clearing out room indoors. Shifters have a way of poking through tarps and then guess where the water runs? Anyone want to confirm that this is a Jeep bellhousing?

The shaft has ten splines and comes out almost to where it is flush with the mating surface of the bellhousing.

If the water and rust bothers you I can help with that. I will offer you my T-18/Dana 20 with Dana 18 twin sticks in trade.:D Let me know.

I looks like an AMC to me.

I will keep that in mind Ratty. Seems like the water cooled transmissions are gaining in popularity. Thanks for the AMC confirmation.

From here at least that Transmission doesn't look that bad , rust wise...............I would flush it with kerosene and fill it back up with some cheap light weight motor oil for the time being until your ready to use or get around to rebuilding it.

I did notice on the large 1st and Reverse gear that the leading edge of those teeth have been banged up some.........that may be telling you that the syncro there is worn and will need replacing.

The back gear is reverse only unlike the T18 where it does double duty. No sycnro for reverse.

If you want to flat tow a dana 300, you will need to install a set of shift collars with oil paddles on them. I still have one set for sale, let me know?

Thanks everyone. I don't intend to flat tow this one. Going to take Tarry99's advice and flush it out with Kerosene. I think I will also invest in some brass brushes and see what I can knock off with them. Then I think I will try to see what I can through each of the pto covers to get a better feel for what is going on in there. Still haven't been able to find a good picture showing a t18 equipped CJ5/6 floor. Since mine is rusty I guess I can start cutting where it looks like there is a lack of clearance when I get around to installing the T19.

There were some good pictures of a yellow intermediate Jeep with a T-18 that showed the floor panels well. I can't find them with Google search now - maybe moving the forum is still affecting the site indexing. I will look again later.

The floor panels are the same for the F134/T-98 Jeeps and the intermediate CJs with the T-18, so maybe someone on here has a T-98-equipped Jeep and can snap a few pics to post.

AMC bellhousing. I can't tell how long the pilot is from this angle but it looks like it may be a Ford main drive gear (input).
Make sure the reverse gear is snug on the mainshaft. It helps control endplay for first gear and if loose first gear can move around and jump out. Damhik.

I can tell you that the size of the original T-90 floor hole will tightly fit around a T-18.............although the cover is totally different. Here is a factory T-18 cover............kind of primitive , but that is it!

Nickmil, with a straight edge across the front of the bell housing mating surface, the tip of the input shaft is about 1/8 of an inch short of reaching the straight edge. Tarry99, I was afraid that I would make something that looked like that. Now I can do it and say it was stock. Thanks again all. Frank
