First off glad to be aboard on this site with a great bunch of knowledgeable people.......Been wanting to share some photo's of my old Jeep's but to be honest finding any of the early photo's was not a very easy task!
Been messing with Jeeps since the mid 60's as I grew up just down the street from the Archer Bros. Jeep / 4-wheel drive Business in Hayward, Calif. If you were into Jeeps back in the day I'm sure you either knew of them or bought parts from them at some point in time. Hanging around that place was a great experience for any kid and there was surely allot to see & learn from Art & Garner Archer. It was amazing to see all those wooden crates full of Military Jeeps & parts wrapped in Cosmoline that came through there. It seemed every week there was a new stack of goodies to be unpacked.

So without further ado , ride along for a little trip from back in the day till today and see what I've done or am doing to my old CJ-5.

Opps, will since this is my first Jeep , I guess the story really starts here...............My 1950 CJ3a 4 cylinder flathead all of about 50-60 HP 3-speed and 5:38's in the rear.........a little rough when I got it , well to be truthful it was real rough and painted some ugly poo-poo brown. It had been someone's else's hunting rig when I got it and I also hunted out of it for a year or so......most of these pictures were when I was fixing it up to get ready to sell it......I had my eye on a new CJ-5 so I was pretty excited about finishing this up so I could move on.

If you noticed in one of the above photo's that Blue 1965 CJ-5 parked across the street? That was my new ride.......and yes I had them both for a short while in early 1967.

The 1965 CJ-5 is a great story. My friend that ran the parts counter at the factory Jeep dealer Cochran & Celli in Oakland, Ca. which by the way was also a Chevrolet dealer told me about this like new Jeep that had been ordered by two Japanese brothers that farmed rice that never pick it up......As the story goes It sat on the lot for several months until the sales guys started to use it as a demo .....until I bought it in 1967 with only about 800 miles on it with the full warranty. It had a 4 cylinder , 3 speed with 4.27 gears w/ Powr-lok in the rear 60/40 Bench seats and was painted by far in my eyes the prettiest blue ever on a Jeep called Nordic Blue Poly code # 223 it was really an early metallic Blue and quite stunning in the sunlight..............At the dealer they installed a radio, aftermarket heater ,Warn Overdrive , chrome wheels with over sized tires and a white soft top.......................now jumping from that old CJ-3a to this new CJ-5 was like I died and went to heaven.........Really!

And yes that is a chrome windshield and yes I knew someone that owned a chrome shop...........so there was allot of parts that found its way to the shiny stuff. Like I would unbolt things one day and give them to him and two days later they were done. Of course I was dating his daughter which helped! I've always said take a picture when it's new cause it will never look that good again!

Master: Close your eyes. What do you hear?
Young Man: I hear the water, I hear the birds.
Master: Do you hear your own heartbeat?
    Young Man:No!
Master: Do you hear the grasshopper which is at your feet?
Young Man: Old Man, how is it that you hear these things?
Master: Young Man , how is it that you do not!

    Steve, Just a little fun!

    What happened to this Jeep?

After getting back into the World I did what I and that Jeep loved best , and that was getting out into the back country and used at my favorite pastime.............Mule Deer Hunting.
Places like Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and even some California. Me and two friends towed that Jeep to every remote spot we could gain access to. Made allot of friends along the way of ranchers that we mostly used there property to gain access to remote BLM land...........been known to bring coolers full of fresh San Francisco Crab on Ice & French Bread to a few of these ranchers as gifts each year...........we loved the outdoors and the rougher it was the better we liked it. Not unusual to be 40-50 miles off the pavement where the only sign of trails in were one's we left in previous years. Navigating by Compass and Forest Service maps we got around just fine............there were some pretty hairy things that happened but we mostly prevailed.
High Mountain remote Winter Weather and the ultimate respect you must have for changing conditions was by far the most critical component of being that far off road by yourself when a trip in is normally 2-3 days and maybe longer out if snow is accumulating........

Even the occasional trip to the Rubicon Trail which this Jeep made twice back in the mid seventy's , long before all the restrictions were put on this trail's use.

Dinosaur's Ha Ha!.............You would probably know more about where on the trail that photo was taken than me........last time I ran into Parts Mike at his store a few years back he told me I would not even recognize the place anymore. When I was up there last you could camp anywhere and fish in those lakes that now are off limits or fenced off.
