Thanks for all the kind comments.

I have a canvas soft top question....I cannot get the back to close properly, as the canvas needs to stretch. So I'm looking for some prior experience....am I correct at assume that the best course of action is to lift the top off the bows, button up the back completely, and then pull it down over the bows, allowing it to evenly stretch all around? Is it helpful to wet it first, or anything like that?

(Please don't say wait for a hot day....I live in Alberta and it is October already. lol)

    Heat gun?

You don't want to work it cold and damage it. Maybe do what you said, but be gentle. I imagine the rear window isn't interested in being stretched.

    Heated garage?

No experience with canvas ... but with vinyl (which has a fabric backing), sunshine makes a big difference. At mid day, it should warm up if it's in the direct sun. (My CJ-6 top is so tight, it's not coming off until next June).

Does that top have snaps? I'd think you could at least lash it down with the straps and buckles. There may be a gap, but leave it under tension and in the sun and you should be able to stretch it some.

Thanks for ll the suggestions. Well, I took the rear bow out, put the top over it, and then popped it back in.

Bwaa haa haa....trust me, not much sun for the next while.

I guess I'm spoiled by the Boston weather. Not warm, but plenty of sunny days, especially in the fall.

Even when the air is cold, the sunshine can be warm.

I like your Jeep - that's a great find! And I think the color is great, even if it's not original.

Thanks. I'm just joking....hopefully there will be a few sunny days that will help stretch it out. Gotta figure out the correct way to use the straps to tie down the back too.

Can anyone identify the top? Manufacturer?

    Very nice Jeep, good find.

Other than the battery hold down chain, and the heater hose routing, I don't see a lot to dislike.

You might also have a powerlok in the rear differential; me thinks I see the LS additive tag under one of the cover bolts.
You could simply remove the fill plug and look inside to easily confirm that...unless you already know.

The tag in the bottom left says, if I remember correctly, 43/8 on the top and 5.38 on the bottom. So just the gear ratio.

    Very very nice!
One thing on the paint though, I believe it should be Glenwood Green Poly or Fountain Green Poly in 1960. My '57 is Fountain Green Poly which we figured out from the original paint that was shiny under some undercoat we peeled off. At least according to this http://www.film.queensu.ca/cj3b/Paint2.html
I found similar info elsewhere also.

So you think it might be one of those shades? The same colour paint is underneath, and although I haven't looked too hard, doesn't seem to be another colour showing.

Have you looked up underneath the dash? That would be the most likely spot to find an unrepainted area.

No, I haven't yet. Underneath the body seems to be all completely painted green. So I am assuming if it was a repaint, the body was removed and completely done.

Otherwise....maybe original paint, just not Spruce Tip Green.

Here's a pic of the wheels I had repainted to Fountain Green Poly for the '57. This was matched to the original shiny paint found under the undercoating as I mentioned above. It was not faded at all and the wheels were originally body color on my Jeep. It's really hard to tell on a monitor the differences in shades but maybe will be helpful. Sorry for the fuzzy cell phone pic. Here's another with the wheels mounted on the Jeep. You can see the faded paint under the hood.

It does look similar....but it is so hard to tell. I'd have to probably see the three colours side by side by the jeep.

I'll try to check it again and see if I can find any evidence of a respray or repaint.
