On my 66 when I pulled the tranny & transfer case out, I noticed that the transfer case mount had sheared up near the ear of the transfer case & the rubber isolators are in bad shape. Is there a source for a replacement?

That's not it...mine is a short offset inverted Z type mount that looks to be made from 3/16 or so flat stock that's about 1 1/2" wide & 2 1/2 to 3" long...I'd post pictures but my SD card slot in the computer is boogered up.

Is your Jeep a factory V6? The 2 V6 Jeeps I have had the flat bar, like you describe, bolted to the transfercase on 1 end. The other end bolted to an F-head motor mount bolted to the frame. There's no evidence on the crossmembers of transfercase case at all.

Yes, I've got the V6 with D18. That may be the same as what I have going on, but I have no idea of what an F head motor mount looks like...the rubber bushings mounted on the crossmember are in pretty bad shape.

That broken flat barstock must have had some hellacious torque applied to it to snap like it did...that might help explain the condition of the tranny...

ETA: I'm gonna take it off this morning then give everything under & off the jeep a good scrub down...it won't be all that difficult to fabricate a new one & maybe add a sort of gusseting on the underside to make it a little stronger, but I'd rather just keep it the way it is if a replacement part is available....

Yes, what cadwelder says is what you need. You can come over an look at mine if you want, it is a '70 with the V6 and D18 and has the same flat stock strap connecting to the F-head motor mount bolted to the inside of the frame channel.

    Hey, Mr. Miner:

Are these the parts you need?

Well my 66 is stock and it has that Z piece that is bolted to the xfer case and has the rubber donuts and the bolt is bolted to the cross member. The Z configuration allows you to move it around for proper alignment. This is with the 225 D18. I should have a pic in photobucket so will take a looksee.

The parts in my pic are from a '69 V6, T14/D18. The rubber mount attaches to the inside of the frame rail (passenger side) with 2 bolts.

I'm really interested in how this mount is supposed to be for those with v6, I bought the one from walcks and had terrible time installing it.

I had to cut the rubber down just to get it in,

I don't have V6 Jeep's tran/tc in a vehicle anymore. I was able to get some pics showing this mount system by mocking up.

This pic shows (not too well though) the mount still on the frame. Pic taken from inside engine bay:

This pic shows mount bolted to a frame:

Last pic show mount attached to transfercase (twin stick; not correct):

No, that's not how mine was mounted...I went over to djbutler's this morning & looked at his & what you have is what he has...mine is different & I figure I'll probably have to wait until I get my transmission & transfer case up & in & then figure out how best to fit & fabricate something a little stronger. I could probably weld what I have back together & add a couple of side support (gusset type) flanges on either side & it would be stronger than the original, but it'll probably be better If I come up with an easier/stronger fix.

Can you post a pic of what you have? The Daughter's '70 with 225/T-14/18 is just like what the other guys have posted/described. Willys Wagons and PU's used something like you describe but they had a basically flat crossmember, not one with a "drop" to it so the mount was taller.

My SD card slot on the computer is boogered up, so I can't post pics right now, but my crossmember has a drop to it. In fact my crossmember has three spacers between it & the frame, as compared to Dons two. (I noticed this yesterday)

I've never seen that one before. All the ones I have seen have the donut style bushing that mounts between the 'case and the cross member. Interesting. I'd be curious to see your cross member and look for evidence of the donut style bushing. I'm wondering if someone retrofitted yours.

This transfercase mount mystery has captured my attention. I've been digging out old parts, studying, measuring and photographing.

Here is a pic of 3 crossmembers; the one on left from a '62 CJ5 F-head/ T90, center is from '50 CJ3 L-head/T90, the one on right from a '69 CJ5 with V6/T14. I set the V^ TC mount on the V6 crossmember in its approximate location (fore and aft).
    http://i1170.photobucket.com/albums/r532/cadwelder/IMG_20130902_101507_238_zps37f3b7c8.jpg

My theory is that the V6 TC mount was made different for manufacturing/production reasons and not that it is a better design. From the picture it appears the trans and TC mount holes are in line (fore and aft) on the T90 transmisissions (I suspect on the T86 trans as well since it is a T90 case with different gears). The trans mount holes on the V6/T14 crossmember are about an inch forward of the TC hole.

I think the engineers decided the simplest fix was a seperate crossmember for the V6 (tooling costs wouldn't have been too great), the flat bar bracket is simple (probably outsourced), and an existing part (F-head motor mount) could be used as the isolator.

Another pic showing the recess in the crossmember to clear the bracket.

Of course, this is all just my opinion, based on the evidence I have at hand. Like I said, it's a mystery--would love to hear your opinions.

Good info Cadwelder. Just for clarification though the T-86 case is not the same as a T-90 although the T-90 gears will fit in it fine as you note. I want to eliminate possible confusion for future searches.
