Well, calling today the official start of my build/restore. Can not believe I am starting. Took the tub and frame off the trailer today and took the trailer to the guy that bought it from me. Transmission, t-case and engine are is still in a friends barn. Hope to pick them up next week. All the other jeep parts are in my basement in boxes.

For a new gas tank, I bought a new 4 cylinder engine gas tank. Had a friend that owns a sheet metal business cut the locking ring out and weld it into the new 4 cylinder engine gas tank

I will have to say, I have not done a lot of physical work on the jeep, but talking to vender's and sort out problems I love to do that. Steve

That's a clean looking tub. Where's the tool box?

It is in the basement. This tub was from a DJ5, the PO had done some modification on it.

Frame, draw bar and some other parts get sandblasted Saturday

Took the frame and some other pieces to the sandblaster. Since I had so little he told me to wait around and he would blast everything. Saved me a hour plus drive back down there next week.

Finish coating the frame, will put the frame outside for storage and start on the tub.

Move the frame outside so it can get some weather on it and I will see if any rust shows up. Will take care of any rust before I start putting everything back together

Took the tub to the sandblaster today, did all the areas that will not be replaced. Put the tub back in the rotisserie

Here is all the new sheet metal going into the tub. Will start on it tomorrow, hope to have a majority of it screwed in by the end of the week. Will probably screw everything together, with a few tack welds and once everything looks good go back and weld it.

Looks like you have your work cut out for you. Did you build the rotisserie from Tommy B's plans? That was my first real welding project from plans. I cut out and replaced one area at a time so the tub couldn't get out of square or tweaked. You'll see what I mean when you start removing sections. If you don't have a spot weld cutter I highly recommend one. I got mine from Harbor Freight. They are actually pretty well made.

The other tool that I had good results with is their flanging tool/punch. It's an air tool that has a punch on one side. I didn't use the flanging part for much, but the punch makes perfect holes in sheet metal for spot welding. Think of it as a paper punch for sheet metal. It had no problem punching through 16g.

On the rotisserie I use the plans PieLut had. I have a flange tool, just need to find it. Never used a spot weld cutting bit, I usually used a drill bit that is cut different on the end, do not know what they are called. On this, I will just grind on the spot welds and take them down to the metal. My past experience is if you drill to deep cutting a spot weld, you will get into the other metal. I think I can grind a weld off as fast as I can drill one off.
I am worried about the tub moving as I cut the panels out. First thing in the morning, I am going to pick up some metal studs and break metal, will be bracing things up pretty good. In one of the pictures you will see a box marked Laser. I will take measurements with the laser and do the demo, then as I put back, I will check the measurements to make sure everything is OK. Will take lots of pictures.

    I'm guessing Classic Enterprises.

Your tub looks good from these pics? I'm surprised it needs so much metal.

Looking good Steve! Your tub looks a lot better than many that I've seen on here, I'm surprised that you needed all of that sheet metal. I was curious, what did you use to coat your frame? I'm about to do the same to mine, and yours looks REALLY good!

The drivers and passenger floors and the riser behind them need to be replaced. The back floor and the wheel wells where rough. I probably could have fixed them but I would have never been satisfied when everything was done. So I just decided to replace them. There was the thought of buy a new tub but I decided to just replace the bad sheet metal.

I used POR-15 on the frame, if you decide to use it, PM me with your e-mail address before you buy any thing. I can give you pointers that might make things a little easier for you

Picked up some metal stud track and angle this morning. Braced the tub and started removing sheet metal.

Removed the riser and drivers floor. The riser is screwed in place and the drivers floor is fitted, need to check a couple of things in the morning. Then will drill holes for spot welds and prime areas that will be covered up and reinstall.

Need to have my cutting torch tanks filled, cutting everything out with a small grinder is taking to long. Much less all the cutting wheels I am using. Need to buy stock in the company that makes them. Steve
