I know...not diggin that at all. That would put my shackles right about 9 inches long. I may be running yota axles, but I dont do the 3 foot long shackles like they do. I am nervous cutting my fenders but while messing the with the jeep today (JB welded the carb for giggles and guess what...it runs great over 3 thousand RPMs but will not run, oh well) and got to inspecting my fenders and they are shot...specially the passenger one. Cracked where they meet the grill, dented from frustration one day and just looking poor. Screw it, i will just cut em.

While awaiting my tags in the mail, I decided to take care of the ugly white dash, fix the crack in the fuel tank filler neck and change my seats. My new seats have a track width that is just about 1/2 inch narrower on either side so i need to make me some brackets. My leak in the fuel tank was not the vent tube as i thought...it is the main filler neck coming out of the tank. It cracked on the front side and wrapped around the bottom of the neck. So, some jb weld time later and the leak is gone...from what I can tell. No pics of the crack, i could barley see it myself...used the blind, finger poke approach.

Well guys, i attempted my first fender cutting today...front not the rear. The rears came out fine but I aint happy with the front at all...should have left it ALONE! Well, lesson learned and educated myself for the next time. Did some touch up painting (rattle can of course) on the windshield frame, fenders, door jams and hood. Found out the jeep came factory with a nice red paint job. Here are a few pics.

I like the fenders. But then I sort of have to since they look just like mine. What did you use on that outside edge? I had thought about using some rubber tubing and slitting the tube lengthwise to slip over that edge. Just not sure about how to keep it in place. For your front shackles, you could take an angle gauge (Harbor Freight) and mark on your frame how much further you would have to go to get say 45 deg on the shackle. It might not be that much. Maybe you could weld a small extension or plate on the frame to move the mount forward. Did you outboard the front mounts? Seems like you did. That may complicate things a little. Just thinking out loud. If you added say 1/2" or 3/4" to your shackles and moved your mount another 1/2" or so you might be right where you want to be with that shackle angle.

Only room i have to move the mount forward would be to cut the mount off and pull it to the edge of the bumper which is right at 1/2 inch. Yes, i outboarded the front springs and pulled everything as far forward as i could. For the fenders, i used 1/4" fuel line from Orchard Supply and Hardware, cut each piece to length and then used "Seal-All" in the opening then slid it over the edges. It wants to pop off though so I used vice grips (any type of clamp) to hold it in place every 8 inches or so.

Thanks guys. I guess I just had a different picture in my head and the thing is, i was really wanting to keep a flare on them and was going to use a net set of TJ flares which came with my rear ones. Problem is, they are about 5 or 6 inches longer then the cj flares and in order to use them, i would either have to cut WAY into my fender or cut the end of the flare off (where the light goes) then remove a good section of the fender then jb them back together...found this out after an hour of trimming with an utility knife. the more i look at them, the more I like them. Took the jeep to a 4x club who wants me as a member and they all liked them also so Im happy. And Mike, good meeting you today partner.

Hey Mark your inbox is full.

I always enjoy meeting the members here. Between the 2 Rubicon runs and some other stuff I think I am up to 17 or 18 members that I have met. Looks like you are on the right track getting your rig going.

You mentioned the slick rock trail this afternoon. If you go this fall I would be interested in tagging along, this is one trail I have not done yet. I have a few things to button up this month and I hope to get in some fall wheelin' trips.

Thanks, i will clear it out now. And yes, I have a few people wanting to go on a Slick Rock run, the yota guy with the truggy wants me to go with him and this new 4x club really wanted me as a member and they want to run slick rock as well so as soon as time and money allows, i want to run it. I will prob post a thread in the trail ride section soon as I can set some time aside.

took the boy fishin tonight and decided to try out the new cut fenders whilst we were there. Found out though, that i need to cut off the toyota-leaf spring- catcher deal that are on them. The front ones hit the frame and tweak my springs in a funky position so they need to go.

Here is a pick of what im talking about. Anyone know what these things are for? They were stoping the leafs from curling up too far when I put them on the jeep...maybe a drop limiter? None the less, they are history as soon as I can fire up the ol sawzall.

Hum normaly those are use to align all the leaf together so just cut the upper part and it will be allright. I'm happy to see that the jeep use to flex very good even with the leaf set-up you have at the moment.
