Located on the front of the block, drivers side, just below the head

Engine Number

First Digit: Year

Second through Fifth Digits: location cast and car serial number

More on the engine numbers; a 6 means a 6 cyl with a .010" oversize cylinder bore engine.

Casting Numbers: On the back of the motor at the top, casting numbers

Intake casting numbers:

Note on manifold numbers; these numbers are the only casting numbers I have seen for 198's, there may be others. If there are and you know of them please e-mail me, sparky.
