There is a 1976 J10 truck for sale close to me. Does anyone know what axles were used in those trucks. Are they easy to fit in a 74 CJ5?

Should have 44's on both ends. 4.09 and 3.54 were the available gears in 74 and suspect were the same for 76. These will be full width axles, but you may still need to outboard the front springs because the front axle right side tube is short. The tires will be well outside the body with these. Only the J20's got the 60 rear axle.

A 74 had just about Jeeps best ever combo of axles with the centered 44 and narrow track dana 30 front. Full-size axles under a CJ are kinda a pita on narrow trails and most LEOs will whip out the ticket book if they see em on the road. As above most likely 3.54 gears.

Yes, J-truck axles are very wide for a CJ - most of the tire will be out past the fender. Unlike most vehicles, the rear axle is even wider than the front. Plus they are 6 on 5" bolt circle, so you'll need wheels to fit the axles ... assuming this is a J-10 truck ("1/2 ton").

Thanks for the info and encouragement. Better leave the truck axles to the truck scavengers.
