After repairing the body I put a bed liner on the tub before adding 1/4 in alum diamond plate Cutting and bending this stuff was a nightmare After going through 4 grinders 2 saws all and a jig saw I found it cuts like butter using a circular saw with a 12 tooth carbide blade used to cut plywood go figure

Turn Signal Reminder and Reverse Buzzer

I just started driving my jeep again after many years of it being in torn apart. With the location of reverse on the 3 speed transmission I am always afraid I will have it in reverse at a stop light not paying attention and tag the person behind me. :?

Also, with the manual turn signals I always seem to forget to turn them off :).

So in both cases I wired a 12v buzzer to beep when in reverse or the turn signals are on. I used one buzzer for the turn signals and one buzzer for reverse.

The wiring of the reverse buzzer is straight forward. The red lead goes to the wire that shows 12v+ when in reverse and the black lead to ground.

The turn signals are a little more complicated if you want to use only one buzzer. If you wire the red lead on the buzzer to both turn signal 12v leads your turn signals will become hazard lights because they will all flash at the same time. You have to isolate the circuits, I did this using diodes. On my GM harness the turn signal wires were blue and lightblue at the steering column.

With some heat shrink and zip ties the whole thing is tucked up under the dash.

Starting a new camp trailer

I just started acquiring parts to build a teardrop style off-road trailer.
The hitch is from http://www.locknroll.com/index.aspx and I got it yesterday.

Here is a side view of what I am going to build.

Image: http://www.hudsonhawk.net/trailer3.jpg

I am going to run 30x9.5 tires on stock jeep wheels. I will be able to use the Jeep spare on the trailer as well. It will be the same width as my LJ and just slightly shorter then the top when its up. Hitch to rear of trailer is just over 11 ft. long. I have a 3500 lb 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern axle with brakes, and 3K lb springs. I will probaly have to take a leaf out of the springs when the build is done to soften the ride. The cabin itself is 48 inches tall with 6.5x 5 ft of space for sleeping.

Right now it looks like there will be about 18 inches of ground clearance under the frame of the trailer.

The design is a modification of one that was recentely built on the Teardrops and tiny travel trailers web site. (http://www.mikenchell.com/forums/)

I just picked up a replacement frame for my cj5. It needs some work but is in much better shape than what's under it now. Has anyone found away to clean and prep the areas that are boxed in and hard to reach? There is surface rust I'd like to deal with then paint.

thanks.

I installed my driver side header to night and I'm not happy with were it hangs. Is there any way I can bend it up. I read about shrinking the metal in a certain area to tweak the bends alittle, but I need to move it up about an inch and half or so.

Thanks in advance.

New Build - 1978 Cherokee Chief!

So, I sold my CJ5, and have replaced it with a 1978 Cherokee Chief, with the AMC 360, a TH400 Auto and Quadratrac. So, to start with, things i need to do before i can really drive it...
1. Power Steering Hoses (Big Leak)
2. Timing, Ignition, Possibly Valvetrain....
3. Re-Wire front end - no front turn signals

Here are some pics - Thus far i have ripped out the carpet in the front, and tried to re-time the engine, but it has a bad miss - so i am going to troubleshoot that tonite, do plugs, check ignition and then pull valve covers to set valve lash and look for possible problems....

Might have to start a build thread at this rate.:)

Cam and lifters, timing chain done.
Still had the oak piece for the spare tire mount, and the usual rust that goes with it. Got that out, and the rusted section cut out, and a piece welded in..

Got some seats from Sammy yesterday. Driver side was a bolt in, passenger side took some creativity, but they're in, and are comfy.:)

Splicing Got Contagious

Well, Seeing my tub with no "JEEP" on the side got me to thinking. I had spare cowl section hanging around. So I cut out the "JEEP" from that piece and found a place to splice them in.

Sure, the hood may not have been the flattest place to splice these in, but all in all with some more filler, and a bit more more sanding it'll come out alright.

And yes, I did both sides of the hood.

New rear bumper

Finally decided I needed a new bumper and tire carrier. Most all of my ideas came from the builds on here. I also stole BKD's idea for mounting it to the frame. Here it is so far. Still waiting on the spindle from iron pig offroad, and I haven't decided what I want to do for tail lights? I also am un-decided if I should angle the ends of the bumper or leave it as is and box the ends. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The supplies

3/4 x 2in for the shackles/frame mount
Image: http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad75/xarmtdawg/DSC03775.jpg

Cut down, ends rounded, holes drilled. This was some tough steel
