Hey guys. A fellow club member just picked up a beautiful restored 73 C104 Commando. I thought someone here has a similar one.
Anyways, he's looking for someone with one to help out with information for a few minor problems.
Anyone here?

ITs got no brakes. Pedal to the floor fluid looks like mud. Looking at brake upgrades. Also needs horn button and I think window cranks.

For brakes he should eeither swap in a later CJ with Disc brakes or get a set of caliper brackets (6 bolt) and add disc brakes to his axle, or get the whole knuckle off the later 2 bolt dana 30 nad add that to his current CJ. My commando had the original drums all the way around and they were not very good. The commanods dru brakes are pretty much identical to the CJ, so you can swap CJ brakes over.
If the brake fluid is mud then pretty much he will have to drain everything and hope the water in the lines didnt rust everything out, and probably he has, so he will have to get new lines (worse case scenario). i got the universal lines from the local auto store and ran my lines.

For the horn button and cranks, check ebay they always come up or go here

to inquire about parts.

And dont let anyone give him crap about the bullnose grill... every earlier jeepster owner is jelous of it :)

yea I got a 72,304 all orginal except for the soa and reverse shackle.I am in the process of putting disks on the front. It has been a 6 month project.I kind of quiet messing with it,could not get enough pressure to lock them up.Took out the proportioning valve and that is where it sits.So I am working on my cj steering until I get more patience to mess with it.Different m/c next.I picked up a half cab and bulkhead for $80,not sure what to do with the hard top. What do you have?

I don't own a Commando, but I've driven a few of the C104s and the 11" brakes were fine. The optional power boost works well. I'd say no need to change them unless you just have to have disk brakes.

Word of warning with out the prop valve you will have troubles. It needs to be there when you have discs. It meters the amount of pressure to the front and rear systems. I just completed the swap on my 72 cj5 had the same issue until I discovered that bleeding the calipers while mounted to the brackets will not allow you to remove a very large air bubble that will be trapped. Gravity bleeding or froced bleeding will not get the air out unless you take the caliper loose and rotate the bleeder valve to the top. I found before I did that I could pump the pedal 5 or 6 times hard before I would even see the caliper move. Hope that helps.

yea I found that out about the calipers,if you just look at them the bleader is at the 2 oclock,it just looks jacked up!Eventually I am going to plumb the brakes back up with out the prop valve just to see what happins!Did you bleed your front brakes first.I read some where that you have to so it sets the prop valve correctly. All my hardware is from a 81 cj.

Yeah I did the fronts first (many times trying to get the pedal up) The parts I used were from a couple of different places. The axle stuff I got from a guy on e-bay from a 77-78 I think. I also upgraded to a power setup that was from a Wrangler. Got the power booster/MC/prop valve all together. Works great now.
