View Full Version : Busted upper shock mount
I twisted off the threaded end on one of my rear upper shock mounts.
I'd rather not cut the whole mount off and weld on a new one.
My thought is to cut out the steel rod, drill through both sides of the mount, and put in a bolt.
Has anyone done this repair? Is there a source for a bolt for this purpose?

IIRC, a late 70s - late 80s GM intermediate has a shock mount that unbolts which you could use to replace your broken one. It bolts onto the frame or axle, has a shaft for the shock bushing, and a end to bolt on the shock. Most FLAPS should be able to get you one, or you may have to buy the shock for that vehicle, and it will have a hardware kit. That is IIRC.

Maybe you could go to the pick-your-part and cut the end off of a shock mount with the long bolt you need. Then trim off the extra and weld the bolt into your existing mount.

Now that I have thought about, it might be the Camero/Firebird/Nova shock mount....Hmmm wish I could remember.

Napa autoparts carry's a shock stud the you would cut your old rod off, drill the tower and bolt the stud in, them its just like the old one on the other side.
