Here's a pic I promised: My new shifter boots. The twin stick boots are from R&P, the T18 shifter boot is from my local International Harvester 18-wheeler shop:

The twinstick boot came from R&P 4 Wheel Drive.

Only the big boot for the T18 tranny came from the International Harvester dealer.

Lynn,

Would that shifter boot work on my T14a on the '68 or would it be too large?

Barry, it would probably be WAY too big for the T14, but it just barely fits over my T18 tower.

The T18 tower is really big, and sticks well up into the cab. The oval-shaped dimensions of the one shown are about 8.5X 10, and I had to grind the trim ring to make it fit around the base of the tower!

Just drive your CJ to a big-rig parts place, ask to look at their boots and try out what they have.

I got my twin stick boot from an old Scout, the boot looks about the same as mine. I drive a forklift at work and my boot looks like the forklift's twin stick boot. I've actually talked to at serviceman, he thinks they run about $10 - $20.00 a pice hasn't really loooked it up for me yet. The Fork is a Yale Trucks forklift.

I don't think R&P has this on their website, you'd have to call them.
IIRC, price was $40.
A $10 - $20 price for a boot from Yake forklifts might be a very good alternative. Thanks for posting that idea Jim, might save some guys a few bux!
If anyone tries out a forklift twin-stick boot, post your experience here! :flag:

Here's a link to these $25.00 IH Scout boots.

To me the little round boots for the Jeep didn't last as long as I hoped. The material was cheap and got hard and brittle. Plus these have a different look, that I was looking for.

Sweet! :stout:
I'd be happy if mine were half that nice.
For now I just have a gaping hole in the floor.
Prolly leave it like that for the winter, it let's some heat in from underneath.

ArtHi Art! Hate to tell ya, but from my experience that air that is hotter than the depths of hell in the summer turns very cold in the winter. It's like it's even colder than outside. Of course being in CA, maybe it won't be so bad.

I don't suppose anyone knows of a triple shifter boot? My OD shifter is located right in front of my transfer case shifters and too close to use a seperate boot. Has anyone seen an application where the shifters are arranged like that, maybe in a piece of equipment or a tractor?

Hi back atcha Gramps!
I was mostly joshin'. That hole in the floor bothers me for a bunch of reasons and will be covered somehow whenever I can get around to it.
Maybe after I finish getting the wood split.
I was thinking of combining my old cover with the cj2a cover and then fabbing something up out of hide. Maybe skunks would go good with the 90 wt stink?

I have been looking around for a nice large boot and nobody seems to carry them. There is an international dealer in Greeley so I checked with them and Lynn's part number is still valid :)

286655C4 Boot $30.54
371114C1 Retainer $13.35

They don't have them in stock, but I am ordering them now.

Lynn, how has the boot been holding up?

Thanks, Chris

We sell metal roofing here at my store, I'm wondering if the EPDM rubber roof jacks (pipe flashing) would work? I'll have to give it a try!

http://www.dana60.com/lynn/boots.jpgThose shifter boots look like the ones I have. My SM465 boot is from a 74 3/4 ton Chevy truck. The heavy duty twin stick boot I paid $30 at a local 4X4 shop. The ring on the twin stick boot I made myself.:)

Chris, it remains exactly as shown, except dirtier :D
They've both held up with no issues, I'm quite pleased with them.
