My Dauntless has a Carter BBD on it, in reading on here and the net I noticed that they are usually paired with a Rochester 2G. Did they change over to the Carter at a certain point or is this something that someone put on it? I'm hoping that if it is stock it will narrow down the year.

Not a stock item.

If you want to know the year, I'd guess late 1969 or early 1970.

Large turn signals with reflectors on the hood.

I don't think it's a '69, unless it's a late '69 and the turn signals changed then. But it may be. My '69 Jeepster had smaller turn signals, but lacked the hood reflectors. But my '69 CJ-5 has large turn signals and hood reflectors...

So, '69 or '70.

Thanks for the quick response.

I believe it would be '70. '69 should have the small "bullet" style turn signals. '70 should have the larger flat turn signals.

I wondered about that, but your (my) Jeepster also lacks the side reflectors that a '69 should have.

My '69 CJ-5 has large turn signals, I thought it odd that they'd keep that bullet style on the Commando too unless they were just using up stock. Even more odd that it lacks reflectors.

Thanks guys, this is really helping.

From what I've been able to determine, they switched to the larger signals and the hood reflectors sometime in the 1969 model year (or maybe it was late 1969 DOM and then registered as 1969 instead of 1970) and it ran part way through the 1970 model year when they moved to the reflectors in the fenders (again, this might be 1970 DOM for the 1971 model year and registered as 1970).

Did that make any sense?

Oddly, yes, but probably only for this crowd.

Is yours early or late in the model year Sparky? Just curious if it might have anything to do with it.

<shrug> Who knows, with a Commando VIN there ain't no way of telling. :D

I need to get the frame VIN and see what I can find.

I tried looking for the frame VIN tonight to no avail, I'll have to wait until I get the front fenders off so I can clean it up better, trying to get it off the back end of the frame is a lost cause.
