power booster HELP!!!

HELP
I've got a 68' Commando just over hauled the 225 and it sounds great lots of power. this jeep just won't stop. new master, no air in lines.how do I check the booster?? When I step on the pedal it's like stomping on a rock!! I can't find a new one or were to go for a rebuild in Northern Calif.
Redding area.Iv'e checked all the parts shops up here and they can't help.

I too have had trouble finding a power booster for a jeep commando, mine did not come with one so I ended of fabing one off a commache. Check your vaccum lines too! Make sure with all those engine upgrades you didnt comprimise the vaccum going to the power booster.

I started up the motor and let it run to build up vac. then shut it down went out and pulled the vac line from the booster and heard the vac hissing back in. I'm guessing the booster is good??? but still no brakes???
any ideas??

A booster from a Jeep XJ Cherokee will work. Found mine with the master cylinder at a junkyard for about $20.

I bought a replacement from http://www.piratejack.net/. The 7 inch single diaphram booster PB7001 mounted up to my existing bracket perfectly. I had to buy a clevis #6772-18 for the rod to attach and trim the rod to length but it is new and works great. I opted for the dual diaphram booster PB7537 and corvette master cylinder MC1312 which gives you more stopping power.

Lookin' good Migman. What did you have to pay for the whole setup? Still have your old booster?

Yes. I still have the old booster and master cylinder. I paid around $110.00 plus $12.00 shipping for the booster and master cylinder and another 10-15 for the line adaptors.

I was going to ask if you wanted to sell the old booster but for $110 for the complete setup it's probably not worth having the old one rebuilt unless you wanted to keep the original look. We were going to check those out last time I was in Asheville, but got doing other stuff. Excellent price and it looks good, nice clean install :).

If you want to keep the original look you can buy the single diaphram booster and use your existing master cylinder. I bought one of the single diaphram boosters first and it is identical to my original but since I upgraded to 11 inch brakes I decided to also upgrade to a dual diaphram booster and larger capacity master cylinder as well for better stopping power.

What kind of shape are the wheel cylinders in? A rock hard pedal can be caused from frozen wheel cylinders.

I could not find that part number on the site. I would like to know more about what you did - it looks and sounds great. MigMan, what was the part number on the single diaphram booster you mentioned?

Sounds exactly like my Diplomat, I left it sit for a year to work on the body and when I went to get er back on the road the brakes were crap.
Ended up the only brake parts not replaced were the booster and praportioning valve. I had enough and bought the jeep. The Diplomat is now my son's problem, Althou I lost about 100+ hp in getting the jeep I like it alot more since it's soo simple.

But back on topic after wheel cylinders,brake lines, calipers and master cylinder the only things left are the booster and proportioning valve if you have one.
