I have seen some covers for low back CJ7 seats on ebay in the recent past. If I see anything, I'll post it.

I can't help otherwise because I always do my own upholstrey work. Haven't in a while. If you have one for patterns and can find someone in your area with a heavy upholstrey machine, you might have a bet there.

Don't like to do it if I don't have to so I'm not volunteering to do anyone else's. (Can just envision 100 emails coming in requesting this. :roll: )

I recently gave up with having my seats recovered. Boyink has a very helpfull writeup with very good pictures on his website that would be helpfull.
I ended up buying bestops covers. They look sort of ok, and seem sort of ok, but I think they might move around a bit even though I secured them with extra bungie cords of a short length with small hooks.
The material looks good enough and fit is ok, but they could have added a couple of inches of material on the bottom to secure it to the frame with hog rings.
My thoughts are that a upholstery shop cannot stitch the "tuck and roll" and get a tight, but not too tight fit on thier first try at making a Jeep seat cover.
I considered using Bestops trailmaster seats, but could not find anyone at Bestop who could give me a yes or no that they would fit in spite of the fact that they advertise them to fit into an early Jeep.
It sounds like to me, that there are no drilled and tapped holes for the frame to match up with. Perhaps not even flat stock to do it yourself.
I have seen a high hood CJ3 that had trailmaster seats in it, but couldnt locate the owner to ask about them nor have a look see.
My own taste leans toward the lowback seats. I like to look around, and dont like the appearance of the headreast on hiback seats, rubbing the against the top.
It is a tough choice and if you find a good solution, let us know. ;)

Don't know if they have a site or not but in Roseville, MN there is a well-known auto upholstery business called B&K Automotive. They do all kinds of custom interior work and are known for their seat work. They rebuilt my passenger seat on my 56 CJ-5. Needed a couple springs, cushion and reinstalled the original cover. It looked like new until people started standing on it to stay out of the mud and the water on the trails.
Not sure if they can do this with your old seat but people bring their cars to them and with you sitting in the seat they will add and remove padding until it fits your body then cover it back up with factory cover.
Not sure if they would actually build a seat frame though. :flag:

Look on Ebay, there is a user called "uphosltstry shop. Well i got a backseat upholstry from them, and it was great quality. i had a local canvas place actually install the cover, but was glad i did that it looks perfect. the upholstry cost about $51 (my auction that i won) but you have to look yourself for how much it will end. you can probably contact the user and get the upholstry without going through the auction. It isnt a cover, it is a complete new upholstry set.

I've had mixed luck with seat recovering. The Bestop covers are ok, I'm finding the thread holes widening and you can see the white underlining of the vinyl, and they tear easily. The last time I recovered seats I removed the old stuff, and saved them as templates. I removed the framing, just the bolted on stuff, (I was working on a set of 1974 seats to put in my 1966), bought a good grade of marine vinyl (a couple of types and piping) and presented the whole pile to a local upholstery shop, He did the recover for $325.00. I was very happy with the job and I saved some cash by prepping a little. I have recovered seats before, sewed the fabric and all, and if I had time I probably would have done it again, but I am happy with the way they turned out. I'm not sure where they came from, the PO installed them. I will be reworking the mounting but they are nice. JC Whitney has a nice set, look for cable end on buckle side, makes finding the buckle easer.
